Now that diesel is up over $3.00 Im not parking this baby anywhere without a lock on the tank. While looking at some of the hits on TDP I was looking at someones truck and saw a very nice looking locking cap. If anyone knows where to get one, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

Hess101,

Good point on the benefits of having a locking cap with fuel prices rising..

AC Delco GT250 locking diesel cap (http://community.webshots.com/photo/63497470/147586053ZjyIxS) (GM 15070014)

This AC Cap reuses the tether from the stock cap... I bought this one from www.ac-direct.com (http://www.oewarehouse.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=O&Product_Code=GT250) but they should be available through your dealer.. Wal-Mart also sells a Stant locking cap that will fit...

Thanks Bill
Your sight is the very one I saw the cap. I was looking at your Husky mud flap extentions and thought I saw a locking cap but forgot where I went. So thanks much!
By the way, great innovation on the extentions. I have the husky flaps and they are worthless, if your trying to keep mud off the paint.

I take it that it is not keyed the same as the ignition. I was looking through the site and saw a couple that sayed "keyed alike" like what may I ask. It would be nice not to have to put another key in my pocket.

IF ANYONE HAS ANY INFO OR ADVICE I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. THANKS dmaxmule

Also, these caps are a good deterrent to theft or vandalism but if someone wants the fuel bad enough they can easily break them open.

This is great info. I checked on getting this cap from GM today only to find that it only fits 01-03 trucks. 04 and 05 both have different part #'s and dont cross reference with the 01 to 03 gas caps. GM does not offer a locking cap at this time for the 04 or 05.

I believe the GT250 will fit/run with the 04/05 without any problem .. Not sure why GM doesn't list it (??) (FWIW I ran the same STANT locking cap I had from my 98 6.5LTD on my 03 before switching to the GT250.)

Can someone running a GT250 on an 04/05 confirm?

The Locking fuel door sounds good too!

GM now has a locking fuel cap available for the 2005 2500HD Duramax.

Part #10326376, dealer cost: $40.00

www.AC-Direct.com (http://www.AC-Direct.com) part # GT264

$25.50 shipped

REVISION

Now that I've recieved this cap I have discovered that this cap does not fit my 05 2500HD. It is not a screw on type of locking cap, required for my truck.

Sorry for the bogus post; I was relying on information provided by my local Chevy parts department.

jbplock ~ Thanks, the gascap arrived today. Looks just like the oem even to the Diesel insignia except for the lock.

Tip for others wishing to go the tethered oem route: I had to warm the tether to be able to remove it from the old cap and get it onto the new cap. To warm it w/hot water, had to completly remove it and destroyed the fastener P/N 88967142 ~ intentionally disposable ~ but $4? So, might as well order it at the same time. If I had to do it all over I would have clipped the fastener at the gitgo, (not the tether) w/a pair of dykes.

Keyed alike means You can get 2 or more caps that use the same key.

Since the GT264 ACDelco cap that my dealership told me would work (and didn't even come close), not to mention they charged me $31.50.

I have now found and personally verified that this cap works perfectly and is top quality and priced reasonably.

The guy selling these caps on Ebay just happens to live withing 10 miles of my house here in Phoenix. He hand delivered the cap since he was not 100% sure the cap would in fact work, since his catalog didn't list my 2005 2500HD Duramax.

Cap fit perfectly, and now 300 miles later no check engine light of any problems.

If interested in a locking fuel cap for your Duramax, or practically any vehicle, check this guy out. He offers 100% money back guarantee, included refunding the shipping money you paid.

Question: I have an Auxiliary fuel tank in truck bed. The cap is flat across the top. Will a locking fuel cap allow water to enter the tank around the key cylinder?

Good question ~ cover it with a swim/show cap?

yep, 3.00+ a gallon (last fill for me was 3.49) would make some think to get a locking cap, that was one of the first things I put on when i got my truck back in '03... not because I thought someone would take the fuel... I didn't want anyone to put anything down the pipe!
