Some time back some one on this board istalled a CB antenna on the opposite side of the regular radio antenna. It had been installed through the cowl just like the radio antenna on their truck,it was such a nice clean intallation he even provided pictures of the install, at the time a CB antenna was low on my list and I did not save the info. guess what? It soared to the top of my list after buying a CB on sale at Camping World. Could one of you steer me to that post in history please? Thanks in advance. Stu

A search for "CB" and "Antenna" will bring up some more info.

SoMnDuramax came up with the mount and idea. His Picture Trail photos are not there, so you may have to post directly to him.

I copied the idea. My pics are here:
http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=1230370&uid=147085

I can email you the drawings for the correct dimensions to fab a mount.

Forget about that 5th wheel Doc. Your TT weighs a ton less than an equivalent 5th wheel without all the windage. Instead go to www.aemfg.com and check out their Weight distributing hitch. Also www.jordanbrake.com can fix you up with a brake controller that's second to none. After that you'll think you're towing a 5th wheel and still have the bed of your truck available. I was a semi-trailer driver and I'll pull a TT anytime before a 5th wheel. In my signature check out my generator setup that's a winning setup as well.We boondock in the desert and it's like we're hooked to shore power. Stu

Thanks for the tip about the Blue Ox hitch. I had a pullrite on my 96 suburban and loved it. I had about 20,000 towing miles on it including a trip to Alaska in 2000. I could not find your generator set up in your signature. Perhaps you can point me there or email it to cdpva33@hotmail.com? Thanks!

TxDoc,

If you wouldn't mind sending me the the drawings/dimensions I would really appreciate it. I have a mount in my bed that I use when I have the camper shell off. During hunting season I use the camper shell and I hate using the magnetic mount. The info would be greatly appreciated.

e-mail allamerican1@ev1.net

Thanx

SoMnDMAX's cb antenna mount is terrific. The only issue that I had trying to build it was that I didn't have access to a welder. There ARE ways to make a bolt together unit if you are in the same boat that I was ;) I haven't had any problems with my bolt together mount in 36,000 miles.

I have my bracket all cut out ready to be welded but before welding it I decided to assemble it with small bolts and install it, that way I could adjust the rake of the antenna so it matched the regular radio antenna. There is a chance that the CB antenna could be pointed in a different direction than the radio antenna without such adjustment. That would not be cool. Thanks again guys for such a good idea. Stu

Just out of curiosity, is anyone with their c.b. antenna mounted in this position running a linear???
I was wondering if the antenna's close proximity to the e.c.m. caused any glitches.

To TxDoc for supplying the pictures and SoMndmax for the invention, thank you.
The bracket has been welded, installed, and hooked to my new CB and I'm ready for any RV convoy,I installed it for that reason.
The bolting it together before permanently welding did turn out to be a good thing the CB antenna lines up perfectly with the radio antenna and really resembles an OEM installation. Stu

these trucks are drive by wire, the computers are well shielded but every linear i have ever seen caused alot of interference. Do you really want to take the chance on your life? Unless you are a ham radio operator linears are illegal. Do you want to take a chance on going to jail? I hear its like monopoly, go directly to jail,do not pass GO, do not collect 200 dollars. and by the way its a federal offence.
somndmax can i get a copy of that drawing chevmeister@hotmail.com

Illegal..........yes, but so is exceeding the speed limit. I was just asking out of curiosity because of the number and variety of members we have here........I also realize that I probably won't get an accurate answer from the masses due to everyone's current thinking about being watched by "big brother" and that an answer to my question might incriminate someone who's father's friend's second cousin's brother's highschool sweetheart once used it.......thus sending them immediately to prison and voiding the warrantee of everything they've ever owned.................but still had to ask.. ;)

Hey guys, check your e-mails....

Can anyone verify that the bracket fits the '03s? I think it will, but haven't personally tried it.

Thank you for the info and especially SoMn for designing this bracket.

I have heard of a linear, i dont know how big, cooking the computer in a mack truck, the throttle stuck open and the driver was killed.

It does fit the 2003 models.

Chevmeister- yup, I too have heard of some weird problems with linears, but I also believe that it's related to the proximity of the antenna to the computer as well as the power being used.
I personally know of someone(wink, wink)using a 250watt on a '99 Burb and NOT having any problems at all.......but the antenna is mounted to the back bumper. ;)
SoMnDMAX- send me a copy too please.....thanks Matt!!
