I saw a post a while back about disabling that auto headligts. I know all about the dome override switch and I want to perminatly disable them. Has anyone had any luck with this? I was looking at the sensor on the dash this morning and tryig to disable that but am not sure how it comes out of if that will even work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Kevin

There's a company that makes disable switches for our trucks. I had one in ym old Z71 and it worked good. It uses a factory style button similar to the cargo lamp switch. I installed mine in the blank next to my air bag disable switch. It looks factory. Their website is http://www.truckautoaccessories.com/

There was a post over at Pickuptruck.com about disabling the Twilight Sentinel feature of your headlights. It involves disconnecting the sensor on the dash (requires dash cover removal), and plugging in a resistor (which is readily available from Radio Shack, 5 for $.99). I'll see if I can find it for you!

I did this on my rig (takes about an hour, dash cover removal is not as hard as it sounds), and it worked great! Now my headlights are fully manual. This mod does not affect the DRL operation, however. If you want to defeat those, you still have to push the dome override button 4 times (or yank the fuse!).

Thanks GMC D-Max. That is exactly what I was looking for. I was hopeing that there was someting that could be done with that sensor. This will help a lot of people.

Again Thanks,
Kevin

Can I ask why you want to disable the feature? In marginal weather and or low light conditions I want to be seen coming at you on the road.

I just like to be able to control the headligts my self. Especially in the morning or at night when i want to start the truck and the lights to not come on not to mention when it is cold that little extra voltage to the started helps a bit.

Also, I think I (and most others here) am (are) perfectly capable of determining when to turn the headlights on. I did disable my DRL's for a time by pulling the fuse, but I did the trick of replacing the pathetically fragile stock bulbs with heavy duty, higher output amber bulbs. Looks great, lights are brighter, and they're on all the time (until I turn the headlights on).

I got tired of the Twilight Sentinel feature when I was constantly hearing "DING!" and having the headlights turn on when stopped under an overpass, or in the shadow of a semi trailer, even on a bright, sunny day! GM can trash it (and cut costs in doing so!) for all I care!

If you want to have all the lights off for starting, to include the daytime running lights, apply the parking brake ;)
