Has anyone put a 9' BOSS v-plow on their crew cab dmax?

I am concerned about it being to heavy for the truck. BOSS doesn't recommend it, but the dealer says that I shouldn't have any problems as long as I don't add a ton of extra cargo weight.

Personally, I wouldn't run a V-Plow on a 3/4 ton. Too much weight. You could turn up/swap torsion bars, but thats alot of hassle, and a terrible ride when the plow comes off.

People around here do it, but 900+ lbs. bouncing around on your front suspension will take a toll in short order.

Why the V plow, if I can ask? We have ~10 acres of commercial property under snowplow contracts, and have never seen a need for a V-plow. This season, we'll run five Chevy pickups with 8' straight blades, some poly, some steel.

To me, V-plows were made for ranchers and small municipalities that need to keep roads open. Good at moving large volumes of light snow. The 'scooping' function is very overrated - if you want to really scoop - get a S250 Bobcat with a 90" snowbucket.

I think the oposite, why buy a strait blade when there are better choices available.
Scoop mode is very helpfull in any parking lot or any instance where you are moving snow around a lot, between cars or what ever. It's hard to think it offers much gain without ever using one.

I recently purchased an 05 2500HD reg cab diesel. I recently installed a 9' Fisher X-Blade (approx 940lbs) on the truck. Along with the plow, I installed a set of Timbrens in the front. Fisher also gave me a ballast retainer kit that goes in the bed and holds all the weight behind the rear wheels. Although I havent plowed yet (obviously) I did load the truck up with 1000 lbs of weight and had the plow and Timbrens installed. The combination seems to work out pretty good. The truck sits almost level with the 1000 behind the axle and the plow up.

While it is a lot of weight.

What with the Diesel, Allison, and the Crew Cab. You should still be OK.

I have a 9'2" BOSS V on my Reg Cab Gasser and LOVE it!

The 8'2" would be too small for the Crew Cab, so don't try and shave weight thinking the 8'2" will save you. They're only 68lbs different! The added width is GREAT for getting up close to things w/o getting up close with your mirrors/truck.

The V is great for maneuvering around tight areas, as BOTH sides tuck in close to the bumper, making all that jockeying around with the long truck that much easier.

The SCOOP position is this plows best feature. I use it constantly! I only use the V position to break trail through deep drifts that would leave straight blades there for a while bucking it side to side.

Very well built plows with top quality parts and VERY quick hydraulics.

Make sure you get the front mount height set properly with the tire size you plan to use. Also you should think about Timbrens and about 1K lb of balast (bags of rocksalt work great!) behind the rear wheels. The rear bed partition (the grooves in the back of the bed you stick a 2x10 in) work great for keeping your balast at the very back!

Any questions, don't be afraid to ask.
