I have a 2004 2500HD and I was told by GM that my VIN was not part of the recall. I was concerned because the eyelets on the end of the cable show rust.

Are they the old style? Should I be concerned?

Before I sold my '02, my cables snapped. I tried to get some from GM but they were on backorder and cost quite a bit ($20 each? It's been awhile, so I forgot).

Anyway, I went to Napa and they had a replacement set that cost $8 each. I was surprised they were so cheap. You could call those guys and price them out - it might be cheaper to replace them than you think, and you won't have to worry about it anymore.

this is jpblock photos of his truck and he has what we should all have instead of the cables.

jpblock... if you're reading, where did you get the strapes? It used to be www.vrstraps.com (http://www.vrstraps.com) . That site is no longer valid. I don't know if he is still making/selling them. If he is, I don't know where.

I believe the person selling/manufacturing the straps went by the screen name of "Victory Red". I have the VRStraps as well they are much better than the cables. I will buy another set when I buy a new truck. I hope this info helps.

I read a post from another forum and Rick (VRStraps guy) said he wasn't making them anymore, but if there was enough interest and time permitted he may again start making them. This was last week (week of the 10th). I have a set on my truck and they are great, but I was one of the first guys to get a set and they were purty cheap. I believer now they are in the $50 range....i think. But, whatever the cost they will be worth it. I bought a set for my brother for Christmas for his '99 1500 and everybody he sees wants to know where he got them...needless to say he too likes them a bunch.

I'm interested - for a '96 K2500.. I can't believe that straps aren't out there somewhere

I'll track this thread in hopes of getting a Heads-Up. Thanks

I found this http://www.dependable-straps.com/dpd9904gm.html 99+ GM. Why wouldn't they fit '96? $25 Ea./ Stainless Steel

Quote response:"Yes, I still make them and they are still $25.00 each, but no they do not fit on a 1996 K2500. The hinge point is different and strap lengths are different.
Thanks,
Phil"

So I'm looking for some to fit the "96 - If you run across any - please post! Thanks
