Has anyone installed the K40 radar detector with a laser difuser in their Dmax yet? Just wondering what you thought of it. The installed price will be $731. Any comments on that too.
Thanks, Vince.

JaxMax,

Wow! For that price they should have a guarantee to pay for any tickets.

Seriously, I'm not familar with an installed radar detector. What's the scoop?

If your going to spend that kind of money on a fuzz- get a valentine one, the quality is WAY better than any other on the market anf they pay the ticket too. smile.gif

I believe the Defuser Plus is part of the total unit. The $731 includes the other bands as well and protects the front and rear of the truck. I'll check out the Valentine too, thanks. K40 pays the tickets for a year.
Thanks, Vince.

I took their recommendation and got the Escort Passport 7500. So far, so good. Heard a squak today (cruise set at 60) in the rolling hills near home. 1/2 to 3/4 mile later, a squad pops over the hill, and BAM he lights the Passport to full scale for a few secionds then silence. I've heard other odd squaks on the county trunk roads and never seen the source so I know this thing has range.

Thing is, if they pop over a hill an/or use "instant on" you are pretty much fried.

From what I have read, there is not a single jammer that really works...

^...Kennedy, the 7500 is an older unit. I have had it now for probably 5 years. And you're right. A detector tells ya' that you're busted. Cops have the technology to outperform any "detector" on the market. Sorry, but it's true. Fact, not opinion.
As for the jammers, most all (if not all) U.S. jammers are a passive type jammer, by FCC regulations. Active jammers are not available in the US. An active jammer is the only true way to out-smart a radar gun, be it X, K, Ka, or laser. Fact, not opinion.
If anyone so desires, read up here:

or here:

or here for the K40:

Now, don't hold me 100% but I'll account for 99% accurate on the info I have stated. The K40 claims to be active, but if I'm reading the marketing hype correctly, it "actively" protects the user, but that is a play on words. It is still a passive system. But this is where I may need another opinion or correction in my interpretation of the information that is available. There is nowhere that I can find that the K40 specifically claims to be active (or a true transmitting signal output). It merely states it "actively" works. That doesn't convince me.
Kennedy, I am not directing this toward you in a personal mannered response, I just happened to elaborate with an opening response to your post above. The 7500 is a decent unit, but its (and all other) technology is obsolete to the "instant on". Not much of a way around that, other than an active unit (as stated above). Those can be bought from any European company. Not illegal across the large pond.
My best bet is on the CB radio, and even at that, most major trucking firms have their machines turned down, so none of them can speed, thus no reliable "Bear Reports". I don't even trust the CB over a 75% reliability factor.

In hindsight, I believe my detector is the 8500. Carry case, smart cord etc.

^...That sounds better. The 8500 is a new model, however, the smart cord is available for the 7500 as well. I have one and love it. Saves me unnecessary arm motion to the dash (as mine is on velcro, and no cheesy windshield cup mount).
I patiently await the 2k3 model SW audio controls as well. And their fancy new mirrors. Any-hooooo. watch out for the cops. These gadgets only tell ya' that you're busted. :D :D
