View Full Version : Headlights - - - HID ?
Howdy all,
I had seen G Gordan Liddy's truck adapted to "HID" headlights. I think that the entire headlight was repalced. The back of it had a big O'le thing-a-ma-gig on it. I would like to know who makes this stuff and where I can get it.
May we all be safe and thankfull this weekend. :D

I have the Sylvannia HID's on my 2500HD. When first turned on they are "BLUE" and slowly turn white. The low-beam HID has a very nice light pattern; much better than the stock Guide lights. The high-beam side is not HID but a high-performance 9005 bulb. My kit came with Sylvannia's SilverStar 9005 bulbs. The focus of the high-beams is not as good as the stock Guide lights pattern. Easy installation!!

I have factory HID Zenons in my wife's car ($2000 lights, 28,000 Volts) and PIAA superwhite bulbs in my truck. I think the superwhites are just as good for a lot less money. Kennedy recommends an even less expensive bulb that is brighter.
If you've got an extra $800 you want to spend, send it over here, I could sure use it! ;)

I just installed HID for just over $300. What a big difference driving at night. I don't use high beams and now I have no use for them. This setup works real good. I haven't had any complaints from anyone passing by in the opposite direction. I asked a few truckers what they thought of the pattern as I approached them. They said they are easy on the eyes and really light up the ground in front of the truck. They light up more of the ditch line and project out beyond what the Halogen low beam did. It's almost like having your own little sun out front. I am running Hella 6000K Blue-White HID.
Jake,
How did you get HID lights for 300 clams? Did you replace the bulb or the sending unit and bulbs? Send me a link, please.
Man!! I don't know about the rest of you, but I work outside and it's killing me. This heat is too much. In another month it will be deadly.

Red Diesel, you mentioned that the 9005 Sylvania Silver Star bulbs weren't as good as the OEM's? I had seen them lately and they looked like a good alternative to the more costly PIAA's. Seems like they burned hotter/brighter(4000K) than the PIAA's. Anyone else tried the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs?

I have had the Sylvania Silver Stars on my 2500HD for about 6 months now, and really like them. They do not put out any more light than the stock hallogens, just whiter.
Ever notice the way objects at night appear in the yellowish light of ordinary headlights? With these Silver Stars, objects look the same color-wise as they do in daylight, which I find makes it easier and quicker to tell what they are.
If you want more light, go with the HID's.

It wasn't the Silver Star bulb I was talking about but the reflector in my new light set up for the high-beam side. The cast pattern is not as smooth as the original equipment. The intensity and color are great. I hardly use high beam now since the low-beam is so much better
I was wondering how many of you are running these lights now that the price had dropped to below $500.
Here is a place that carries them for $489, for example.

Anyone compared this setup to Kennedy's harness with brighter bulbs? From all the hype on Sylvania's website, this is supposed to be the best thing since sliced bread. Just wondering if there is a significant performance increase compared to the 'old-school' setup our trucks come with from the factory, even if jazzed up with the harness and brighter bulbs.

Trace, as of about a month ago when I contacted (is that a word ?) Sylvania they had no HID kit available for the GMC.....Only the Cheby, pre 2003. $hit, had to edit, forgot my Sylvania face !

That's odd. You would think the harnesses were the same.

I have the 9005 Sylvania Silver Star bulbs (yes 9005's will fit in low beam capsule with the slight use of a dremel) for low beams in my 03 and love them. Never had any complaints from anyone and lights up the area a hell of a lot better than the factory ones. Been in now for almost 4 months. Brighter, whiter than factory. Going to add JK booster harness soon.
Elowe65,
Is Rancho Cucamonga, Ca a real town or did you make up that name ???? Nevertheless, a comical name !!! Good luck with your '03 and welcome to this site.
It's not the harness that's the problem. It's the fact that the Chevy's and GMC's have different-shaped headlights, due to the different hoods.
