View Full Version : No Bose sound system for 2003?
Hi All,
My dealer just called to confirm my order for a 2003 2500HD. He tells me GMC is not offering the Bose sound system for my truck. Has anybody else heard of this, or do I have an incompetent dealer?

Looks like he might be right about GMC's.

2003 CHEVROLET 2500HD LT
Code: UC6: ETR AM/ FM STEREO W/ 6- DISC COMPACT DISC CHANGER - inc: auto tone control, seek- scan, digital clock, TheftLock, speed compensated volume, radio data system, BOSE 6 speaker sound system (STD)

I doubt GMC will pass on the Bose. It might be available later in the year. It depends on your seats. The Bose requires the center console for the subwoofer. It may require the LT full console intergrated up to the dash. That will suck for me cause I really want the Bose, DVD, and a 6spd. Choices choices...
Probably based on supplier availability so they had to make a decision.
Info from my GMC dealer shows that standard fit stereo (at least for SLT) is an Option Code UC6 "ETR AM/FM Stereo w/6-Disc CD Changer with Seek&Scan and includes RDS, Automatic tone control, clock, and 6 Bose Speakers (2 high sensitivity speakers in front doors, 2 tweeters in front door armrests and 2 speakers in quarter trim panel and rear side door  )".
No mention of a Sub-Woofer though and on option list I have, there is no Cassette/CD with 8-Bose speaker option either. May be different up here.
Does the 8-Speaker include the Sub-Woofer??
The DAB (XM in USA) receivers are shown as being Late/Limited Availability.

i don't see a problem with that. while i don't have any experience with bose in car audio, i do have experience with them in home audio.. i don't want to start a flame war, but i do not like bose one bit. the only thing they have going for them is the size of those little cube's. they are good for the WAF [wife approval factor] but now, paradigm, klipch, energy and others offer small speakers that out perform the bose cubes by 100x. for the price you pay for bose, you get a plastic box with a pair of 2" paper drivers and little crumby spring clips in the back. i get upset when i am showing a customer at work a pair of b&w's speakers, and then get asked how they compare to bose. they may claim to be the #1 selling brand by their ad's, but if you are looking into getting home audio, check out the others before settling . now back to car audio, i have heard one bose car audio system [envoy or trailblazer] that sounded "ok". now, you want a good car audio system, check out the mark levingston system that you can get in the lexus 430.. my boss has that.. wow...!
my bose sales pitch - "no highs, no lows: must be bose"
again, sorry if i offend anyone with my rant, but if you are spending any kind of money, go with what sounds best, and not with what the sales guy pushes. boses has massive commissions [when compared to other brands] to the sales guys at retail chains..

To be honest, even if I had the Bose in my truck, I'd still upgrade to MB Quart components. I have yet to hear an automotive speaker such exceptional clarity and power-handling capability. Yeah, they are expensive, but WORTH IT, if you are a true audiophile.

Well after the raggedy stereo in my current Suburban, the BOSE system will be awesome long enough to complete the other $4,000 in upgrades to my new truck before I start to worry about the sound system

$4000 is an ok starting point :D :D
i shudder to think what i have spent on my home audio & home theater stuff.. and i get stuff at dealer cost. i right now am probably at the 10k mark [canadian $$$ though] wholesale price. bad thing when you get stuff cheaper, you always tend to upgrade to the next level. and i will not get started on dvd movies.. hmm, i need to find a support group: home audio/video junkies... redface.gif

You can get the Bose radio in a GMC. You need to get bucket seats.
