Hi All-
Just wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with running 295 BFG's AT KO's on 16 X 8 Weld wheels???(looking @ 4.625 backspacing) I'm not planning on lifting my truck any time soon, and would like to go one size above the 285's if possible, as everyone I work with seems to have them on their trucks... Can I get away with a few cranks on the torsion bars and running the zip tie trick on the DS front fender liner? Or will I run into more rubbing than it's worth?? I have a pretty decent deal worked out with a mail-order place, but was also wondering: if the package price includes mounting and balancing, to they actually ship you the complete wheel and tire, ready to install, or do they contract to a local tire shop to put the tires on the rims and balance them??
Thanks for any insight on the 295's- I would rather deal with any problems I may have before I make the deal!!!

chico

I am in the same boat My 2001 Dmax 4x4 has 285 BFG on the stock 6.5 rims. Went to the store today and asked about Weld 16x8" rims with 295 BFG's MT they told Me that it might rub, they want to sell Me a 4" lift with 33x12.5. That might look good however at about $5,000 dollars the 295 are looking good to Me. I would also like to find out the right backset.

Good luck Bill

Mr. McGouirk, you mentioned that they want to sell you a 4" lift. Any idea what brand lift this is? I have only seen 6" lifts advertised. 6" is to much for me. Actually the wife is only 5'1". Any feed back would be helpful.

chicoc48, There is ssomeone in this forum or another that runs 295s BFGs and says they don't rub. Each truck is different I have 305/70s on mine and had to do some minor fender trimming and raise the torsion bars 4-5 turns.
WOJO 1-- Rancho makes a 4 inch lift for our HDs i'm waiting for my tires to wear out before I do it.

TXDMAX thanks for the info. Maybe by the time my stockers wear out I can do the same. I have seen a truck around town with 295's with a 6" and it looks good. I like the idea of the 4". Does any one have this lift currently installed on their truck and how do they like it? 295's probably won't wear very well with stock rims will they?
Man this stuff is expensive. Thanks agian.

I think I've heard even 285's on the stock rim won't wear long. I had a '95 K2500 with 285's on the stock rally style wheels with the trim rings. I'm pretty sure those were 16x6.5 just like the stock rims for these HDs. I got rid of the truck before they had a chance to wear out, but the sidewalls definitely looked kind of pinched.

WOJO,

I got the info a 4-Wheel parts in San Jose Ca. It's a Rancho 4" lift with new Rancho 9000 shocks, 33x12.5 BFG MT. KO and new 16x8" Mountain crusher rims. Installed for about $5,000. I think that I will go for it, I saw a non Dmax 2500HD with this kit and it looked great not to big not to small.

I am running 285/75's on Weld 16x8 (4.625 backspace). Every truck has a different ride height...I had to tweak my torsion bars.

Initially I had the 285's on the stock rims, but I had to run low air pressure to get the rubber to meet the road. I had to tweak the torsion bars a little. I then decided to upgrade my rims to save money on tires...in the long run. Again, I had to tweak the torsion bars some more.

Here are 2 threads with some good info...

5,000 !!!!

TOO MUCH $$$$!

If you want to save ohhh about $1,000... I'd come down to Los Angeles and have a shop like The Lift Shop in Montclair do it.

Seriously, I have seen lifted D-Max 2500 HD on the dealer's lot and they listed it as a $4,000 option.

Unless the Rancho 4" is $1,000 more expensive that the RCD 6" or the Fabtech 6"... Something is rotten in Denmark.

I don't think that $5,000 is to far out of line. My 6" RCD/WELD/BFG & grille combo cost me $4,000 but that was threw a friend that gave it to me at his cost and cut the labor almost all the way out. Everywhere else that I went down here (3 other places) wanted b/w $5,000-$5,300. Shop them against each other to get a better price. The highest mark up is in the labor. Most shops charge around $750-$100 just to install the lift  .

Just completed yesterday a 4"Rancho lift (4" front, 2" rear), adding 295 Toyo's to my Weld Wheels. I went the lift because I do active 4 wheeling in far off places and couldn't take the chance. Took it out this morning and jumped the truck (9400 lbs this am) on my property taking the front wheels off the ground to see what would happen. Perfect. Shocks are a HD mono gas tube commercial shock which takes one hell of a beating. Clearance is great, but it is not high like a 6" lift. Taking off for the High Sierras tomorrow for a week and will test it more. 4" lift gave me the extra ground clearance I needed with the 60 gal fuel tank. Lift, 5 295 Toyo tires (175 each), align and balance for $2900.

I went to the Rancho web site and did not see a 4" lift advertised for 2500HD's. 6" only. Should I be looking some where else? Inquiring minds would like to know. :D

Les Schwab has it in their warehouse in Prineville, so it ought to be available to their Reno stores. Not on Rancho web, and most 4wd shops don't know it is available. Been out since April according to Schwab price sheet. I dickered with them for 2 days and saved about $350.

I'll stop by this weekend and check it out. Just to see what kind of price they are getting for it. Thanks for the info.
