A friend just got a new 2004 2500 and asked for help with this:

"I just got my Quadra today (Chevy 2500 Quad). It came with 245's but I definitly want to go bigger as they just don't seem to fill the rear wheel wells very good. I did an archive search on tire sizes but got mixed answers. Does anyone have the definitive answer on putting larger tires on a 2004? How big can I go without lifting it?"

Isn't the biggest problem finding a load range E tire for that stock wheel?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

An 04 will take the same sized meats as a an 03 since they didnt really change anything. You can fit 265's with no worries what so ever, 285's have some slight issues according to most but fit fine, you can fit larger by moving the bumper or hacking it. I would also look into 255's, they are about the same diameter as a 285 but a bit narrower. What fits depend on what you want to do and how comfortable you are cranking the t bars and such. I've got 265's but will look into the 255's when these go bald. No cranking of the bars to fit the 265's, I was concerended that with a plow the 255's might be too big but I'm thinking I will be ok by the amount of room I got now without a plow I dont think i would have any worries. I find it hard to pay up for a set of winter tires/rims and summer ones though other wise the decision would be easy.
