View Full Version : 6" Lift
Sup Guys, I'm going to install a 6" lift so I can run 315/75/16 tires either RCD or FabTech. Anyone have experience with these? Also will I was told I will need a program module to recalibrate the speedo for the larger tires. I don't really care if the speedo itself is somewhat off, but will I have a problem with shift points, etc. if I don't use a programmer? This is for a 2002 2500HD CC short bed Duramax/Allison.
Thanks, Chris
Chris: My 01 2500HD D/A has both a 6inch lift and 315x75x16. The tire shop recalibrated to a 33" tire (best they could do). I have had NO issues with the lift (CST), shift points on the Allison or speedo. My suggestion is to make sure you go with a company that produces a one piece sub - frame on their lift. Its more expensive, but much better in the long run. My truck spends much time on back country dirt roads and the lift I have has never given me any problems after 20K miles (knock on wood).

Thanks DMATT, I did a forum search and found a lot of info. Could you tell me what the difference is between your CST and kits like RCD (and what shocks are included). The CST kit is about $300 higher than Fabtech, but if it is a better kit I'm ok with that. Do you think the speedo recalibration was absolutely necessary?
Chris: To my knowledge, both RCD and Fabtech use a multi-piece sub frame. CST uses a tubular, one
piece. For me it just makes sense that from an off road strength and ridgity basis, one piece is better. The shocks on the CST are going to be Rancho 9000 adjustable. My system with dual shocks (front) works great for me in all pavement and off road situations. CST will most likely be higher in cost, but you get what you pay for. I have had no problems at all, including alignment;
the truck runs great and corners quite well. With the adjustable shocks, you can fine tune them for off road situations or corning on mountain pavement. Hope this helps.
I have the Fabtech 6" running 315's. I love the lift. Install was very easy, everything fit perfect. I have also corrected the speedo with a truspeed. check out my pics. :D :D

Kanton1: Very nice set-up. What tires are you running? Did you do any other corrections with Truspeed.
DMATT
Kanton, that set up looks great. I'm going to do Fabtech; I've heard no complaints about it, price is right, and I can run stock wheels if necessary. Did shocks come with the kit, if so how do they ride? What is truspeed?
BTW, your truck is identical to mine. I stripped the body mouldings very easily, but I'm having a tough time with the glue from the emblems. What did you use to get that off?
Thanks for the help
Chris
