View Full Version : OnStar Coax Connector Location
Have any of you considered using the OnStar antenna for your cell phone antenna? To do so, one would need to disconnect it from the current location and bring it out so it can connect to the cellphone via an adapter.
Does anyone know where the non-antenna end of the OnStar coax can be found?

I've thought about this as well. Near as I can tell from the Helm service manual, there is a connector at the base of the attenna which runs down through the drivers A pillar and then connects to the VCU (Vehicle communication unit). I am not much of an electrician but I suppose you could cut into the wires in the A pillar. I would expect that you would have to tape off the VCU side wires as Onstar would interfere with your use of the attenna. I don't think it would be possible for Onstar and your cell phone to co-exist on the same attenna.
Not advisable to cut and splice a coax cable. If it were cut you would have to install a compatible coax connector to maintain good VSWR and low insertion loss. Otherwise you will lose the signal which is in the 900 Mhz range (for Cell phones).

The coxial cable you refer to and the VCU is behind the instrument cluster.....Seen it with my own eyes....I thought my truck was cable ready !!!!!! You should be able to disconnect and add an adapter to extend it as long as you want, and attempt to adapt to cell phone connections.........
