Found some 255/85/16 load range E tires. Anyone ever have these Apache AT/Wide Climber AT. Snow/slush/ice performance?

My 285 BFGs SUCK  on slush and snow. Want to go narrower, with load range E but not to a 235 if I don't have to....

Don't know anything about Apache, but when I was searching for new tires the most reasonable I found was Dunlop Radial Rover (RT?) i think?
Lot more aggresive than the RV, and one of the few available in that size, E-rated, and I think about $95. Also I think the Good Year Workhorse is available in that size but a little pricey. And if you want real aggresive treads look at the Interco Trxus, these things oughta just about scare the snow out of your way.
I actually just came in from plowing, I'm real happy with my BFG AT KO's 265/75. Got em for free from a buddy who was trading his truck in last year. :D Never would have bought them myself, but I've been impressed as far as traction. And seem to be wearing pretty good, will probably get 30k out of them.

thanks for the info mackey ;)

I have been searching high and low for some good winter tires. Heard the Interco trxus aren't very good overall(noisy and wear funny)

Maybe one of our friends from Canada ;) will chime in about the Apache AT/Wide Climber AT tires.

boy if yor 85 suck your in trouble, i had 255 by 85by 16 on before them, and they were literally half the tire, the bfg handle the road much much better and like snow as well, might be the same on ice b ut everything else was better, they were called kelly

Just happened to be checking out a Cosumer Reports about a water softner, and happen to notice an article on SUV/truck tires. Article said the BFG Radial Long Trail & The Bridgestone Dueler were the best they tested. Food for thought.

I can vouch for the BFG Long Trail Radial T/A. Great all around tire. I've ran the 235/75/15 on my 2wd S-10s for 4 years. Never once stuck, and I played in the mud ALL the time. Also in rain, no problems with larger puddles. Tracked straight through them. Had to bring a Pathfinder 4x4 back from DC this past winter and it had the same tires. We were driving on ice/slush the whole way through VA/NC/SC, and they held the road quite fine doing 45-50. Can't say the same about the FWD cars we had to get with Michelin tires redface.gif . Just not enough tread depth I guess when it started to turn to slush.

Got a set of BFG mud terrain KMs in 255/85/16. They are slightly taller than my 285s. Perfect size for the PYOs. Very Very quiet on the road for a mud tire. I was totally shocked, I suspect after a few thousand miles they will get noiser. We'll see........
Hopefully will get some pics up soon.
