View Full Version : Hitch Adapter from 5th Wh to Goose neck?
Has anyone used one of the adapters on a set of hitch bed rails to attach a goose neck ball?
Are they ok?
Do they make the trailer nose sit up too high?

A friend of mine uses this setup for his 5'vr and his 38' GN flatbed, and likes it. I've seen him tow both trailers with it and the hitch height doesn't seem to be a problem with his truck- a '92 K3500 dually.
I would think you could compensate by adjusting the hitch height on the trailer. One would have to do some measuring...
I have a B&W turnover ball with the fifth wheel companion. I could not ask for a better setup.
Just be sure your trailer frame will handle the extra stress of a gooseneck hitch if it was originally designed for a fifth wheel hitch.
You probably could do a search and find a lot of information on the issues involved -- increased leverage, flexing, metal fatigue, heightened liability risk if an accident occurs, etc. Probably not an issue, of course, if the trailer frame was designed originally for a gooseneck.
For what it's worth, from a guy who knows a little about a lot of things and not much about anything.

I'm not putting a goose neck on to my 5'er- just want to be able to throw an adapter on my 5'er hitch rails so I can pull a horse trailer. Didn't want the horse trailer to look like it's ready to lift off like a 747 (nose up)

What Sdaver said. I did it wrong myself, Reese Rails, but I did it right for my father-in-law and my next truck will have a B&W Turnover Ball and 5th Wheel Companion, just like his. In fact I may get so fed up with tripping over the rails, snagging anything I try to load and manhandling the Reese slider in and out that I'll pull the rails out and do the B&W routine anyway. . . I'll just hate having the scars on the floor to remind me of my mistake. :(
