View Full Version : Dynamat Hoodliner?
Has anyone installed one of these, or another brand. I'm wondering if they really reduce noise inside the cab. Do they cause any problems?

It helps some, but the best way to reduce cab noise is to mat the firewall (spray is prefered but regular matt will do). Also insulate the holes comming into the cab. running gauges or any wiring will produce more noise cuz of the holes.

This is definitely true. I recently ran a power wire through the driver's side grommetted pass-thru and it's incredible how much more sound it passes.
I need to get under there and do a better job of sealing it up.

Holeshot,
I'm not familiar with the spray in mat. Any brand names or recommendations? Is it easy to apply? I'm picturing something similar to spray expanding insulating foam. That stuff can be a real mess.

Have enough toys on your new $42k truck? I got sick of washing my dually and went to a SRW, ride is better, better traction in snow, but my 11k # race car trailer does not like it at all. How do you like the K&N intake, did you change the box as well or just filter. You don't have an electronic brake control do you? I'm having some issues installing mine. What are you doing with your sound system, I'd like to mod it ASAP, not nearly enough punch for my ears? Feel free to email me direct if you would, thanks for the help, like your truck.

WOW so many questions!! Looks like my typings gonna improve. LOL
Strangeengine:
I used 3m stripcaulk its kinda hard to find but man it makes an improvement. It stays pliable in all weather and you can move it run more wires, and re conform it. If you need help finding it Let me know i have a box of it and would part with some as long as you take care of the shipping.
SWLA:
Im pretty sure its made by lightning audio. Your local stereo shop should be able to help you locate this.(or do a search online) The spray stuff is kinda hard to use as compared to the mat. To apply the spray you kinda have to prep the area like your gonna paint it. Prep is the key you have to mask and paper off anything you dont want this stuff to get on. (I would definately recomend pulling your carpet back also) It has the consistency of a rhinoliner, and can be easily repaired or drilled if need be.
Ill find out the exact name of the product and where it can be found cuz I gotta do my new truck to. If you have a little time Ill get this info to you this week.
any questions drop me a e mail

Thanks for the compliment its much appreciated smile.gif
As for the k/n intake, yes it is a full intake. Personally I dont think it makes much of a difference, but i love the sound of the turbo now(makes people look hehehe) smile.gif Im not having any of the water probs others are having, seems that the filter is short enough to not be right at the edge of the hood.
As for the brake control its a (i cant say it here as it would take up to much room and I dont wanna be kicked off the board LOL) Took me a ton of research and a new BCM to get it right.
Here is how it goes If you have an old harness out of an 99+ silverado switch the wire from the Ltblu to the brown plug it in and it should work. If you dont have the harness (CUZ in 03 chevy got cheep) go to the dealer and order it. If i rember correctly its 52 or 53 bucks +uncle sam. In either case youll have to stop at your local auto pats store and get a new style fuze for under the hood. I used a 30 amp, Look at your fuze box under the hood and there will be a red cap in the upper far left corner(as looking from the drivers side fender). Plug in your new fuse that gm was too cheap to supply and your all good.
Now for my sound system, im currently in the design process but will be taking and posting pics soon (of the truck and the sounds). But ill give you a little insight in waht my crazy mind is planning. For the head unit ill be using a Kenwood 911 indash tv/dvd, whick will be mated up to a MusicKEG mp3 player(new school people)and a PS2. Both headreasts will have tv's, as will both sunvisors. The amplification will be provided by A kicker 1200x1 to Two kicker solobaric 10" L7 subs, the front stage will be powered by a kicker 800x4. The rear doors are going to house a 6.5in component set in custom fiberglass pods, and the front doors are gonna get a 3 way set 6.5in and 4in in the door (custom pod of course),and tweeter mounted in factory location. I still amm not sure what brand im gonna use for the doors so any sugestions would be appreciated.
I will be posting pics of my truck very soon, and ill take pics of all intake, juice, gauges, exaust(when i get it), and all the other cool stuff ive done to it. if you have any questions abut the system install drop me a note, I have to buid boxes for 3 of my friends and i dont think 1 or 2 more would hurt.

StrangeEngine,
If you can't find 3M Strip Caulk, you can go to your NAPA Dealer and get some from the Martin-Senour Co. Sixty feet of black 4424 Strip Caulk goes for $9.49 as of 02/09/03.
So far I need room to pass 20 wires and one tube through the fire wall and I am not yet done with the proposed additions to the truck. I can see why GM has gone to a serial bus system.
