I have seen plenty of trucks with LT285/75R16 tires on the stock rims (16"x6.5"), but specs say you have to have a 7.5"-9" rim to mount. Tire shop will do put them on no problem. Should I be concerned?

I have narrowed it down to two choices, any feedback:

BRIDGESTONE Dueler A/T REVO
BF GOODRICH Radial All Terrain T/A KO

As always, I appreciate your comments.

I have the 285/75/16 on my truck. No problem using the stock rim. I have put many sets on the d/max. The only problem I have is a little tire rub when turning sharp left or right. It has not hurt anything and I can't see any damage done to the lower air dam. I would chose the dueler for the better ride. Also be ready to step up into your truck it's almost a 2.5 inches higher then the factory 245 but makes the truck look alot better.

You might consider a 255/85/16 if they have those in the tire you want. They're the same height as a 285 but a little more narrow. Basially equivalent to a 33 10.50 16. They fit nicely on the stock 6.5" width rims. As far as safety and running within specs, you'll be a lot more compliant with the 255/85.

Would the 255 handle better than the 285 seeing that its narrower?

I'm sure it would handle better seeing as how you wont have as much sidewall flex b/c of the wide tire on a narrow rim (285's)

I have 285/75/16 BFG all terrains. They rub alittle but not as much any more. This will be the 3rd truck I have had those tires on. The ride is not bad at all, I had 265/75 M/S michlin before, they rode great and cant tell that much differnce.

I have 285/75/16s and have had no problems with the stock rims but they are over spec for the rims and after 3 out of 4 tire shops refused to reinstall them (apparantly there have been some studies showing bad things happening) I decided to go with new rims in 16x8 - chose the Teflon Mojaves from American Racing. Ebay store called Rim Zone had them for a great price.
