I spoke to a gentleman today named Jerry Sherrod of Sherrod Conversions in Jacksonville, FL. I called him because I saw a Chevy 1500 at a local dealer with a Sherrod conversion, a 4" lift, and I was curious what make the lift kit was and how it effects the warranty.

He advised me that Rancho is GM Approved.

Anyone know anything about this?

Anyone got a 4" lift they can recommend? How about the lift from hell that I should avoid?

Thanks

First off, if you are doing it for looks only, DON'T ! If you insist, from the kits I have seen 6" is your only choice on a 2500HD....If you still insist, have Mr. Sherrod install it and get the warranty in WRITING from him AND GM...IMO this dude is blowing some MAJOR smoke up your a$$.... ;)

While it could indeed be true, I've never heard of a "factory authorized" lift either. I smell a rat too...

We have a GM dealer close to me that sells aftermarket equipped trucks with Rancho 4" suspension lifts. The trucks are brand new conversions. You get the standard warranty just like any other new truck and I'm sure the sus system comes with it's own Rancho warranty.

No BS.

Toddster mi amigo-

Why 6 vs 4?

You know why I am tossing this around in my marble can ...

It's the KOOL.

:D

The truck I saw had a 4" lift with 305/70/16's which are about the same size as my 285's in terms of height. (305 x .70 = 213.5) vs. (285 x .75 = 213.8)

It looked great.

I have seen some conversion trucks with the Rancho kit, but none were HDs.

Isn't it true that the US Military is using the RCD kit in the 2500HDs they order? I have seen several pictures and read an article about it, but I haven't heard anything on it for quite a while now. Is the RCD kit the best one?

I just had a ProComp 6 inch lift and 37/12.5/16's put on my truck last week (hope to have pics posted this weekend). I had no idea just how MASSIVE this truck would be afterwards! No handling problems, just a bit heavier steering feel. Let me tell ya, this thing gets a serious "thumbs up" on the cool factor now!

Me LIKEY!!! :D

Do the 37's rub at all with only 6" ? What brand of tire? SS?

How long is the free install going on?

Hi Trace:

I went with the SuperSwamper SST 37/12.50R16's. No rub at all, but I do have the RH front-end replacement, which enhances clearance quite a bit. Not that much road noise either...I'm quite pleased with them.

Don't know how long the free install lasts, but according to the paperwork, between the free install and free MX6 shocks, I saved nearly 1100 bucks...

Yep...that's the one. I really like the aggressive tread and the fact that they aren't really all that loud in spite of it. Pretty soft compound though...I'm currently running the AR Atlas 16X8 with these monsters, but I'm thinkin' about goin' with a set of Weld Rock Crushers in 16X10 (I really like the look of those Welds).

Looks like the weather may cooperate after all this weekend, so I'll clean her up and post some pics... :D

The .pdf file for a 6" lift on the 2500HD states not to exceed 35" tall. I guess your RH front end helps there...

Trace:

It's the Ranch Hand heavy-duty (and I mean HEAVY DUTY) front-end replacement. If you haven't seen one, I have pics below.

DMD-

Sorry I am a dummy but I can't find the pic you mean. Can you e-mail it to me?

Did you have this installed at 4WP too?

Who owns the silver truck?

You lookin' to adopt?

SAD NEWS FOR RANCHO-

I called GM Tech at the advice of my local dealer regarding the Rancho lift kit. This was this past Friday 2/21.

I just got a voice mail from a message left yesterday in response to my questions about the lift warranty.

According to the GM Tech rep- ANY aftermarket lift will void the suspension warranty... AND... depending on the height could also void the transmission and transfer case warranties.

Sherrod can cover affected items but GM won't.

That's the skinny guys and gals and it comes straight from the horses mouth.

:(

Hey ksevern- What's RCD?

Trace:

The RH replacement is what's on the front of my truck in all the pics. It's a full replacement bumper, not just a grille guard. The thing weighs over 300lbs, and it is hell-4-stout. Had it installed in Lubbock at a RH wholesaler.

The pewter truck belongs to Silver Bullet, a regular contributor here and a good friend of mine. Great guy, awesome truck!

Sorry, not lookin' to adopt, unless you're a Border Collie! :D
