We had our first truck-pull of the year last weekend. Basically all classes were dominated by Chevrolet, except the diesel class. There was one HD Allison with the 8.1. It was beat by a 6.0 liter. This was not a good track,, it was to damp and tires made a world of difference.

The best part of the day was a couple of Powerstroke boys, who thought they were going to win the Diesel class http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif Out of about 20 entries, they may have beat 3 or 4!!!! Dodge totally dominated this class!! To make it worse for the Fords,, two of the three Fords were extended cabs and were still beat by regular cab Dodges.

We will know more at the next event,, and hopefully a better (drier) track!!

I did not pull my dually at this event.

Hope to see some D-Max's at the next one!!!

I pulled with my z71 in small block class, never stood a chance, and my Dodge in the diesel class,I got 3rd.I go to every pull within 75 miles of me at the fairs etc..Dodge always dominates the pulls ,no matter where I go.My Dodge outpulled every PSD there, and my tires were only 1/4 tread, stock 180hp 96 auto. The V10 Dodge also wins 99% of the time in big block class.I think it has something to do with the way they get the power to the ground, maybe its the coil spring suspension, orjust torque-I dont know, but they always seem to have an unfair advantage right off the showroom floor.

GOTTA *LOVE IT* when the puny 'lil ol' Dodge/Cummins whups butt on the bigger "better" Ford V8 diesels... Maybe the GM owners smelled the foul odor of DEFEAT at the hands of Dodge too, and tucked their tails between their legs and stayed home where it's safe and warm?

What? a 440 cu in V8 can't beat a 360 cu in puny ol' six cylinder? SHAME!

reddog,
I gave up on your e-mail it does strange things!
I heard the Ford guys complaning about Dodges and how next time they were poppin hoods! Like they would know what to look for!
I know those trucks, they are a tad tweaked.

I canceled my pull in west Pa, but there will be Diesel classes in two other pulls close by that did not have them last year.
The Ford guys are having a Dyno day in Edinboro Pa, south of Erie this Sat. Check the events forum in the Dodge and Ford sites.
I hear there is one close to Columbus April 21, you have any details?

Dodges seem to do well, even stock, dont know why.Lets not judge the Duramax yet,it might outpull them all, especially with the close ratio's in the allison, and low range together,There is no doubt they will pull well too, this summer Ill get to see.

"Dodges seem to do well, even stock, dont know why."

Easy John - it's called "LOOooong stroke inline engine" Cubic inch for cubic inch VERY hard to beat in down and dirty TORQUE! They're NOT racers, and most ANY V8 diesel will SEEM to have lots more power in the "stoplite wars" - but take the big 3, set them up PROPERLY, and then put about 12,000 lbs. behind each of them and head them up a 7% grade (OR a truck pull... http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/wink.gif )- and you will be surprised how well the much smaller Cummins will do. NOW, just imagine if that CUMMINS had 440 cubic inches instead of only 360...

BUT, the newer Ford and GM products are finally getting their acts together, and unless Chrysler gets THEIR act together, we Dodge/Cummins fans gotta get our licks in while we can... http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/wink.gif http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/tongue.gif

>The V10 Dodge also wins 99% of the time in >big block class.

That may be true in your area, but it is not the case here. Big Block Chevy's take this class.

I have also noticed that the standard transmission Dodges usually do better than the automatics when mated to the Cummins.

I plan on pulling my Crewcab Chevy Dually at the next event. I will probably be embarrassed by the Cummins, but oh well....

Funny, Ford 460's rule around here.
The auto Dodges have a lot less power from the factory, and the autos can not get the power to the ground.

I have found out that wheelspeed, therefore RPM, wins pulls more than anything else. That is why you will see stock PSD's beat stock Cummins. $150 Gov. solves that problem!

Mine hits the gov. at 2800 and stays there until it spins out. Hopeing to get a kit soon, I would like to turn 3600.

FUNNY thing - don't usually see many wheels spinning on ANY of the trucks pulling heavy loads up steep Sierra grades - and as much fun as sled pulls are, the REAL work is done out on the ROAD - and we WERE talking about DIESELS weren't we? Yeah - the old Ford and GM gas big blocks were real powerhouses - until smog laws choked them down from their former power levels - dunno if technology has restored that power as it has the SB engines, but in ANY case, the BB engines are WAYYyy expensive to run in heavy service. My old 440 Dodge Winnebago would pass anything but a gas station - 5 mpg on a good day...

Gene,

I have heard rumors of the Dodge boys around here running close to 5500RPMS http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/eek.gif

I also found out today that one of the Ford boys was looking to purchase a new set of Mickey Thompson Baja Claws, and put bigger injectors in his PS....

I have your number, and will give you a ring this weekend,,,,,,

Is that a purple PSD?
Nice rig, but not enough power to turn a set of claws on the pulling track!!

Why would an extended cab have an advantage over a regular cab? Is the longer wheelbase a help? I've never done this (& won't with my NA 6.2--I'd get creamed by the V6's), so I'm not familiar with the better setups.

Guys, around here the most successful pulling tire for stock type trucks is the BFG All-
Terrain... and it's imitations. Just about everyone with a dedicated pulling truck in a class that sdoes not allow cut tracto runs BFG or similar. An aggressive mudder type tire doesn't work well on a hard packed track.

If you want to pull your daily driver... run BFG All-Terrains or something very similar on it.
