I received this email from MBUSA after I asked them whether or not they would ever bring another diesel powered car over to our shores.
"Mercedes-Benz, the company that invented the diesel car, has announced that
it will again offer a diesel-powered car in the U.S. market. Starting in
2004, the company will market a model year 2005, E320 CDI, a more
fuel-efficient diesel version of it's highly successful E-Class sedan. The
new diesel engine is quiet and impressively fuel-efficient, while achieving
lower exhaust emissions than previous diesels.
Diesel engines consistently provide over 30 percent better fuel efficiency
than comparable gasoline engines. The latest generation of
electronically-injected CDI diesel engines is likely to change consumers'
dated perceptions about diesel engines.
CDI diesel technology will help expand the company's already broad product
portfolio in the U.S. market. In addition, Mercedes-Benz' pioneering role
in alternative powertrain development means that its modern diesel engine
is likely to play a key role in the company's future products that could
include advanced piston engines, hybrids and fuel cells.
While further definitive information is not available at this time, we
would encourage you to periodically check our website. This would be the
best source for news on all our models, and can be accessed at
www.mbusa.com" (http://www.mbusa.com)
If we can be of any further assistance, please feel free to e-mail us again
or call us
at 1-800-FOR-MERCedes (1-800-367-6372).
Sincerely,
