From another forum, in case you have or know anyone with this model:

Be aware that I own a 2001 F-350 4X4 Diesel and I was having problems. It was shutting off and sputtering every once in awhile, but it got worse.
I had it at the dealer today and they found out it was a Cam timing sensor. There is no Recall on this yet so I had to pay a deductible under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. ($100) No big deal. I only have 39,000 miles on this truck. Be awhare that the symtoms are the truck just shuts off while driving or sitting still. After you restart it the computer resets itself and gets confused. So the truck runs fine for about 100 miles until it reconizes the problem again.

The only reason I knew what it was before I took it to them is beacause my father-in-law has the same truck but an f-250. He caught his at 34,000 miles so he didn't pay anything.

If you have this problem get it to the dealer quick. and call Ford Motor company themselves
1-800-241-3673 customer service.
if there are enough complaints this will be a recall and owners won't get stuck with the bill.
And I'll get my deductable money back
Thanks

The CPS thing goes back all the way to the first Powerstrokes in '94 & '95. I've seen'em go anywhere from 10,000 miles to 110,000 miles. It ain't real smart to pay the $100 deductible at the Ford dealer. Go to the Navistar dealership and buy a brand new one for $85 and put it on yourself. tongue.gif
