Can anybody tell me what the diplacement of a 5-tn militay truck's engine is? As far as what I can come up with, it seems to be a detuned 14L cummins. Is this correct? Just trying to figure out if the turbo Britannic mentioned a while back in the 6.5 forum could be a practical way to build loads of power with a 6.2/6.5. I'm thinkin' if it IS a 14L then fergit it! It would probably finally spool up about the time Dr. Lee's red rocket got to 60MPH. Any other thoughts?

It all depends which 5 ton. They came with mulifuel engines and straight diesel. There were both turbo and non turbo diesel. The newer 9xx series trucks have 8.3L cummins. It all depends on the vintage and truck manufacturer...and that's just in my 20 years in the Army much less the really old stuff!!!!!

Don't know. I'd take a bit for me to find out right now. I do know the truck was built in the early 60's or earlier. Those turbo's howled thru a straight pipe. :D The engine is probably newer than that. You could run any kind of diesel, kerosene, even gasoline mixed with motor oil (never tried that). Decent power and always started even below zero.

The multifuel diesel in the 5 ton 6x6 has a 465 cu displacement. rated at 185 hp. matched with a 5 speed,5th direct tranny, 6.44:1 axles.
A company in Augusta,Georgia stocks all the parts for the truck and engine.
