Isn't it sad how some benefit from tragedy.
But I guess that supply and demand will always hold the upper hand.

The wife of one of my co-workers paid $5/gal in Elgin, OK (approximately 70 miles southwest of Oklahoma City) around 12 noon today. Heard RUMORS of higher prices $4-5 in OKC and smaller towns in southwest OK.

The governor of OK, Frank Keating, announced that PRICE GOUGING should be reported and will not be tolerated.

The posted prices on the gas station signs did not change on any of the dozen or so stations I passed on the way home from work. I just filled up Sunday evening so had no reason to stop and check the prices - there were between 5-10 cars in line at each of the pumps.

They did the same thing out here in Los Angeles after the earthquake, luckily this is not what most Americans do during a Tragedy.

There were more folks trying to lend a hand then take advantage. Just look at how many Emergency response folks who lost their lives in New York.

We come from all over in all colors and creeds, but in times like these we'll come together, and pull through this National Nightmare,

And after all the needy are helped, there will be some blood letting as America might be vunerable, but WE are not weak, and REVENGE IS OURS!

No change in fuel prices up here as of 830 last night.

The clowns who are behind this apparently didn't look back 60 years, to another surprise attack on Americans. If they had, they'd have known that a united America with a common goal is the very LAST enemy you want to have. They have no idea what they've gotten themselves into.

Too Quote Yamamoto after Pearl Harbor" I think all we have accomplished is to awaken a sleeping giant. I got friends in New York, and these *******s that did this are going to pay, and how his (Osamin dick lamb chops) family can live in Boston and not have the FBI all over these SOB's is beyond me. Yeah, Gas prices in L.A spiked .04 then went down, kinda of Unpatriotic to rip off the consumer at times like these(since this is a Diesel catagory thought I better talk a little about the subject)

It was unnerving to see those prices, but it was in a way a natural market response. People panicked in those areas. Short run supply is highly fixed. So, the sudden increase in demand would create a short-run spike. Peoples' panic = self-fulfilling prophecy. I know that in Cleveland the police took over at least one station with $4.00 gas. They were tying to get an injunction in Cuyahoga county to allow them to shut anyone down with $2.00 gas. Columbus had one station go to $6.00! Sick thing is that people paid it when there was a station across the street at $1.47! And Economists believe in rational behavior? Nuts! Fourtunately, FL has laws in place because of the 'canes. So, we saw a bit of a rise, but only about $0.10. Never heard anything though about diesel prices doing wierd stuff. Guess they're all afraid of the teamsters http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/biggrin.gif or we diesel drivers are more rational. http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/wink.gif

Panic my A$$!!!!

This is just another attempt at profiting at the expense of other's suffering.

I read that EBAY banned the sale/auction of WTC and NYC material (post cards, souvenirs, etc.). They had a news release about it, indicating that it was a large enough issue that policy was created.

Around where I live, away from the big cities, I have seen no instance of price gouging. The locals (me included) would not tolerate even the slightest attempt.

Sorry for venting. The subject just chapps this honorably discharged veteran's a$$......

DmaxMaverick:

Sorry to chap your posterior, but how do you explain the long lines out into the streets? That is not rationality. I am not condoning the price hikes. I was just pointing out an economic rationale. This is now a moot point as rational thinking has settled in and prices are back to a normal level. Don't believe me? Take an economics course...

I'm not disagreeing with you about the public panic. The gas station lines, etc.

What chaps me is the merchants that see this and try to capitalize on it.

My apologies if I came off the wrong way.
