I have a quicky question. AC60G glow plugs are screw in, right? I had talked to someone that was having problems with his chevette glow system, he inquired about AC60G plugs and he said they were not screw in. Could there be another plug with a "60" in it that isn't threaded in to the head?

A chevette with a diesel engine? That's a new one on me. Yes, the AC60G glow plugs are screw in. I can't imagine how a glow plug would be held in place otherwise against the high compression of a diesel. I do believe there are SPARK plugs that have a 60 in the part number, but they are screw in also. Maybe your friend should consult a mechanic?

I finally found a picture to show him what an AC60G looks like. He has screw in ones but they are a different shape than AC60G's, so they wouldn't fit. Apparently the guy he talked to knows nothing about GM glow plugs. He later found out from a different guy what type plug to use, and now it works great for him (4sec on glows and they are red hot).

He put up a webpage too http://w3.one.net/~watscarb/dieselvette.htm
It has updates with his glow plug frustrations.

diesel_blazer,

GM also made put a 4.3L v-6 diesel in the front wheel drive A-bodys. Buick Century, chevy celeberty, etc. Also a 4 cyl izuzu diesel in the s-10s.

I thought I'd seen hints of a 4.3L diesel. I knew GM had diesels in the Chevy Luv pickups, but just hadn't heard anything about recent small diesels. Live and learn. http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/smile.gif

The 4.3 diesel was in two forms. RWD iron heads(Mostly G-body cars like the regal, cutlass, monte, Gran Prix), and FWD aluminum heads(A-bodies like the celebrity, 6000, century, cutlass ciera, and 85 olds 88-98 I think). You can take iron heads and put them in a FWD car(alum heads prone to warpage if overheated I guess). Years were 82-85 all 85hp@3600, 165lbft@1800. 100% diesel from ground up, used same pistons and a few other parts from the 350 diesel.

Chevettes had diesels (1982-86, per my neighbor's manual); about 55HP, built by Isuzu. My mother's next-door neighbor drives an 82 model (original owner) with a licence plate that proudly proclaims why he keeps it: "55 MPG". He has 390K miles on it (4-speed with fact. A/C & power steering). He makes $150,000+/year, BTW. He loves his Chevette diesel!

While its not a GM product, I have an '84 Escort with a 2.0L Mazda diesel. I believe its rated at 50HP. The car has a 5 speed transmission.
