This article was written in April of this year concerning the Allison 1000 for 2002 MY. I don;t remember this ever being brought up.

Allison improvements

The most significant is an internal pump design change that makes the pump quieter.

The adaptive controls for the 1000 Series have been improved....

In our transmissions, we continually measure and adjust the shift profile that is stored in the unit. They've developed a fast-learn improvement. Rather than taking a couple of hundred miles for the transmission to adapt, now it adapts much faster, beginning even as the vehicle is driven around in the plant.

The third improvement is better shift quality. Garage shifts, a term used to describe, for example, the movement from drive to neutral or from park to reverse, have been improved. "You now get much better performance right out of the box.
