My 2003 GMC 3500 Crew Cab 4x4 Duramax arrived at the dealer yesterday after only six weeks. I went to look at it last night and noticed that it had a two piece drive shaft. After reading about all of the problems with the two piece unit I thought GM went to a one piece shaft.I was just wondering if they did make the change or did they just retrofit the trucks that were having the shudder problem ?

I don't think the 3500 CC Long Bed has a 1 piece driveshaft available. I have the 2 piece unit and haven't seen any problems with it yet. I tow a 12k rig too.

The Crew Cab Long Bed (regaurdless of year) was not part of that redesign / recall.

I have a 02 CC/LB with a 2-piece drive shaft and the only problem that I have had with it was after I lifted the truck 6". It was taken care of by dropping the carrier bearing a couple inches (they sell a bracket for this).

Don't worry about it. Pick up your truck and enjoy the hell out of it.

I dunno if my vote counts but my brothers cc crew cab 3500 has a one piece, its one big huge round piece of silver alum that runs from the transfer case to the diff.

My '02 3500 CC long bed has a two piece shaft ... earlier today I picked it up from the dealership for the second time for having to have splines greased where the two shafts connect...lube needed because of "clunk" that developed on take-off.... last time they lubed it, problem didn't resurface for over 5,000 miles....Jim

JHoff,

The 1 piece pole TSB did not apply to the '01/'02 3500 crew cab 4WD, and I don't recall that changing for '03.

01F350SRW,

Is your brother's truck 2WD or 4WD?
