I changed the Allison Filter at 5,000 miles and
then again at 21,000 miles when I replaced the
tranny fluid to Transynd.

Some of the members have written they change
the Allision filter each time they change their oil

Looks like the manual wants the Allison filter
changed every 25,000 miles

Any consensus on the service interval the Allison filter ?

Also, can the Transynd go the full 100,000 miles
before service?

Nomad,
I recently found some info on Allison's web site. Check out this page Allison pdf files (http://www.allisontransmission.com/service/autoapp155/viewpage***p?ThisPage=3) (look at the second item...Allison-Fluid/Filter Change Recommendations - #1099B)

Silver Bullet..... Thanks

Here is the direct pdf

Interesting that with Transynd, the service interval for both normal and severe use is the same??

Based on this service notice, the
tranny service with Transynd and filter change is every 75,000 miles

Check out the specific Allison service bulletin on
our Allison 1000 tranny (page 22) @
http://www.allisontransmission.com/documents/product/publications/pubs/MT3190EN.pdf

That recommendation is 50,000 miles
standard duty and 25,000 miles for heavy duty
for filter and fluid change interval.

Uhhh, hold it! Are you sure they are talking about the spin on filter or the internal filter/screen?

My understanding was the spin on at every 5K and the internal once or twice under 100K.

The Transynd needs to be changed twice before you go for the long distance award. This is to get closer to full Transynd without the DEX III mix.

Pure or 99.9% Transynd can go 200K (if you want to test the theory)

I changed from DEX III when I went to the deep pan and extended internal filter/screen around 12K and then I changed just the Transynd at 30K to "purify" it. Don't plan to change the transynd again until 100K along with the Internal Pickup filter/screen.

But I will change the spin on external filter every 5K same time I change the oil. At $9 it's cheapest thing I can do to save the Allison and me some pain.

ChevysRus,

Yep, they (ALLISON) are writing about the spin on filter. You are
replacing the spin on much to frequently at 5000 miles. Their
recommendation is 50,000 miles standard duty and 25,000 miles
for heavy duty for both filter and fluid change interval. Now the
question is are they assuming that Transynd is the fluid used?

Now the question is are they assuming that Transynd is the fluid used? No, it doubles for Transynd. 100K normal and 50K heavy duty.

Correction. They have ammended the recomendation to 150K normal and 75K heavy duty. Wow

The Allison filter pickup in the pan is serviced at rebuild only or if damaged.

Well OK, but for $9 bucks and if I keep changing it at 5K, my ALLY is gonna last a long, long time.

A little overkill on the maintenance will hopefuly save me some trouble down the road. Nothing but the best for my truck and the wife of course LOL.....

The problem I have, is that this overkill on the truck maintenance is starting to spill over onto my other cars. I have Mobil 1 in two other cars and stopped using Fram Filters on those as well, checking air filters more often also. Spent too much time looking for grease fittings under the cars (there are none) and was thinking about a cat filter for the cars and where I could put them ha ha ha

Does juice make a box for a '03 Impala 3800 V-6 SS Clone? LOL :D

I got the fever!
