I have a 01 2500HD EC LB D/A with 26,000 miles on it thus far. In my 40+ year of driving I havn't owned a vechicle I loved more. However on my last trip it left me stranded with a fuel leak that kennedy stated is common to 01's. I will be towing my 5'r to Yosimite in May for a week and am currious if ther are any other common problems that could leave me stranded?
Thanks
Jerry

Dont worry too much about that... I purchaded a new 01 in August 02 and in the first 1,000 miles I had a major fuel leak... Had to have the injector pump replaced. After that I now have 37,000 miles, 1/2 or which is towing my 24 foot enclosed trailer loaded with 12,000 lbs. These trcuks are reliable and can handle any load... Best of luck

smile.gif JLY, I have 53,000 on my Mule. The only previous probs were a bad injector and pump. Both were replaced before 35,000,and have had no problems since. As you can see by my description below. We pull through the mtns. to get to Bristol and other Tracks to see NASCAR RACES. You shouldn't have any probs but I would take of course a NEW FUEL FILTER.... Just in case.
ENJOY!!!!!!

About 114,000 on mine, putting on another 2,000 next week. No fuel leaks, I always take TWO fuel filters with me along with a strap wrench.

Only problem I have is...errr..... you know. So, I keep 2 gallons of Dexcool with me too.

Just about 38,000 on my early build '01 (November), and the only major problem to date was an injection pump replacement @ 27,000 miles. No leaks, it just loped like it had a "big cam" ... :D

There's been a couple of other minor issues, but most were corrected with software upgrades. Chalk it up to first year run as dmaxalliTech said.

39,000 miles (49,000 kms) on my 01 built in November 2000 and all I had to do was have the flywheel replaced. I've had no fuel pump or injector problems. :D :D :D

I have an 01 3500, 23,000 miles on it. Except for a pesky air leak under the dash(which will freeze your A$$ off in 21 degree weather @ 70mph)I have had zero problems.

Oh, I forgot. If you haven't replaced your trans filter yet, do it. At 5k miles my tranny acted up because of a clogged filter...my bad...I didn't read the maint. sched. very well.

'01 with 99,000 miles. Fuel pump replaced for lopey idle early on, both front wheel bearings replaced within 5,000 miles of eachother around 90,000 miles, a few other minor things. Oh, and she still ticks! Otherwise runs better now than with 10,000 miles. Consistently over 19 mpg on back roads and ~8800# with load. I'm very satisfied but I trade every other year and I may try the new Dodge this fall unless they change the Chevy's nose for '04. Just plain too ugly! Jeff

I have a "late build" '01 that I bought off the lot in Greenbay in October of 2001. I had the system reflashed for updates at that time. Now, at 18 months and 52,000 miles I have only had the TCM reflash for the harsh downshift to 1st and replaced the belt tensioner. That's it! No other problems or repairs. Averaging 18.5 mpg overall and have been consistently hitting 18.5 to 20.4 mpg lately since swapping over to Rotella-T 5W40 synthetic. I run an Amsoil air filter, Amsoil dual remote oil filter, spliced a Maganaflow 4" straight-through muffler into my stock pipes and run a "regular" Juice v4.61 on level 4. I couldn't be more pleased with the performance, durability and economy of my truck! :D

I've got 65,000 on my rig. I bought it used a few months ago so I don't know about what it was like before41,000 but as far as I can tell there were no problems. Up to now I haven't had a single major issue (just minor BS). I've had a few computer updates and I did have to have a u-joint replaced because it was cracked. Currently I am fighting a leaky colling system line. The rigid (aluminum ?) line form the radiator to the heater core is leaking where the support bracket to the engine is welded to it. There is a steady drip and I have to add water about every 3 days if I'm running hard. Gonna JB Weld it in the next couple of days if I can. Anyone else had a problem with this?

In 240,000km (144,000 miles) I've had the computer reflashed, a rod in the passenger door came loose, 2 injectors went bad, and replaced both inner sockets (tie rods). I think I have another inner socket going bad and I get a rattle sometimes that I think is in the dual-mass. In My Not So Humble Opinion the inner sockets are to weak but the rest of the truck is rock solid.

You should see what I put this thing through. I just got back off the forestry road and my truck has so much mud under it the front axle weighs 50 lbs over gross.

Only 2 minor problems
1.) Replaced the plastic strip on windshield that rattled because of bug deflector.
2.) Replaced bowtie on grill from the gold underlay comming off.
No other problems at all on a stock truck.

Well, I think it is safe to say that some of the 01's got a bad fuel system set. I have had 5 injectors go, and 4 fuel lines going into the injectors leak. I am in the process of trying to get GM to either replace all the remaining injectors and lines, or give me a new engine.

Obviously, the 01 was a brand new design, so we should be expecting these types of problems. I wonder if it was a specific build date set that are having most of the problems?

Mine was built Nov.18/00. It arrived on Dec. 13/00.

I have no doubt in my mind that the GM/Chevy trucks are the strongest ones out there, I just think GM needs to back up the owners of the first, (problematic?) trucks that came off the line. They obviously have to expect the same.

Cowboy,
Apparently a lot of the 02's are having problems too. It would appear that the fuel system is the Achilles heel of the Dmax.
