View Full Version : Stupid, Liberal, Allison

I hate the way the Allison is always responding to how I'm driving and changing. I want the tranny to be consistent. Most of the time, I drive conservatively, but when I want full power I want full power. I don't want to have to make 2-3 full throttle runs to get the tranny back to the max acceleration mode, which is what I have to do now. Of course, the Juice simply amplifies all this.

This "learnable" tranny must be a liberal idea. The liberals are always trying to tell us they know what's best, and they are the only ones qualified to decide what we should have and how we shaould have it.

I do like the idea of a "fail-safe" feature on the TCM that will keep the tranny from damage. However, it's not worth even that if the thing won't remain consistent in how it shifts.

Has anyone made a fix for this?

Two position throttle.

Works for me. No problem.

ON/OFF

My trannies are never confused and never have to rethink anything. Probably the time only I'm predictable :D

You should see the Flight Directors on the new jets. Three computers will deside if they will respond to the pilots "request" to climb, desent etc.

Next time, get a ZF. :cool:

Naw, I have burned up my last clutch.

I have full glass in the T-1. While I can program the jet to fly almost without me, I still have the ultimate say it waht happens, which is as it should be and all I want from my tranny.

Great description of your issue with the Allison !!!!!!

Mines a Republican,no problems !!!!!!!

I don't think you will get a fix ..... You will just have to kick aside fuel economy and enjoy the POWER with-in !!!!!

Yeah, if I run hard all the time it does okay. However, there must be a software fix somewhere that allows me to set how I want the tranny to operate.

afp,

The alternative to having to learn how you drive is for you to remove the pan, move shift springs, stopps, and maybe even replace valves EVERYtime you change the way to drive...

Sorry, but the programing is BAR none better than the alternative...

BTW: If you are doing FULL throttle shifts from 1-5 with the BOX on HIGH the Adaptive Learning will not change for FULL throttle they will stay harder than normal..... If you are the type that turns a Power box on and off, then yes you will encounter problems..

I had my Alli reflashed in July to get the newer TCM updates from March of 2002. According to the dealer, the update included leaving the tranny in fast learn mode when in tow/haul. Supposedly the tranny would use only current data and not the last 200 shifts when deciding what to do. Mine seems like when I'm empty and punch tow/haul and mash the go pedal, IT GOES! and I don't have the Juice, either. Try running in tow/haul mode when you want full throttle acceleration.
Just as an aside, do you know the 3 connations of tow/haul:
1) towing a heavy load;
2) hauling a heavy load;
3) haul a$$!

biker Wayne,

Sorry, your dealer told you wrong. smile.gif That's not how the adaptive learning process works even in Tow/Haul..

Searched the archive and this thread seemed the closest to what my question is:

When the TCM has adapted for non full throttle conditions, is it 1.) running in a more efficient state (using less energy to generate less pressure for the clutch mechanisms in the transmission)? Or is it 2.) less efficient and doesn't allow as much of the engine power to get to the rear wheels? Or does it 3.)limit the amount of horse power the engine puts out (TCM talks with ECM to limit power)?

Or is it a combination of 1 and 3, meaning it limits the engine power until it adjusts the pressure for the clutch mechanisms to be able to accomodate the power from the engine?

Anyone know for certain?

....................... :eek: ...................

I like the two position throttle myself. It makes for consistant shifting. I will say my dealer just changed my oil and I got all 6 of the current updates again FOR FREE!!!! without asking as usual, Boy I got a good dealership, anyway I have the update #'s and the tranny feels alot tighter and is shifting really nice.

I did not ask what they were, however 2 or 3 were emmissions related. I know some here are against the updates because there is no going back, but so far they have only IMPROVED my truck.

Mine must be a Republican, it listens to me and does what I want!!!!!! :eek: :D ;)

Blaine,

Did you purchase more Schumer/Feinstein equipment again? Check your window sticker to be sure that's the right model under your truck. :D

drive it like you stole it................and the transmission will shift like the getaway man for you........drive like an ole lady and well I guess you know that shift profile :D :D :D dave....I do notice a firmer shift before the juice comes on... I guess thats the normal profile for me just getting less fuel
