Noticed a small rad mounted on the front end of the fuel tank. Is this a secondary tranny cooler? One of the lines does come from the tranny, the other one disappears down behind the fuel tank hidden by the tank shroud. Where does that line go to? Need someone to satisfy my curiosity. Thanks.

That is your returned fuel cooler. Normally a Diesel engine only uses part of the fuel that is pumped from the tank. What is not used by the engine is returned to the tank however it can be rather hot so that cooler is used to cool the fuel before it is dumped back into your tank.

The fuel is also used as a coolant for the injection system. The power supply runs at around 96 volts and the transformer uses fuel for cooling. There have been cases (I think) of codes being set from high fuel temp which can be attributed to running the tank low on fuel. The cooler does help but so does mixing it back into the tank. If the fuel volume is low than the fuel in the tank will heat up and not cool the computer as well.
