The dealer repaired my truck for the Service 4WD problem - it was the TSB that TxDoc mentioned in a previous post (#03-04-21-001A, Apr 17, 2003) yesterday.

The TSB reads:

"4WD Light, 4WD Inoperative, DTCs C0327, P0836, P0500 (Replace Encoder Motor Sensor, Reprogram TCCM, Inspect Front Drive Axle Engagement Sleever for Damage/Repair If Necessary)" It's an 8 page TSB.

Dealer said that my Sleever is not damaged, so hopefully nothing else was affected.

He said that the new Sensor has improved sending contacts, different from the old one that sent erratic signals to the computer.

Time will tell if it worked...

dmaxalli,

is this issue particular to 2003 models or should I worry about my 2001?

Thanks,
Bob

Is this a problem with auto 4wd or the pushbutton manual?

The TSB lists:

2003 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe
2003 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL

No mention of Auto 4 wheel drive

The tsb only covers 03 models, it does cover manual and auto push button 4x4. It is gonna be very repetitive repair I think, I am gonna be busy with these :D :D

The sleeve conrad mentioned is in the front axle. It is what slides with the actuator and locks the front axle in.

I have not had the prob yet, but it sounds like it is bound to happen. Should I go to dealership and tell them to fix it before it happens and hurts something or will thay tell me to get lost until it screws up. i dont want to be out of town and have this happen like ohter people have. My truck is a 2003 3500 push button. Thanx
