Skid Plate for Alison

Would like to get a skid plate for the Alison tranny - its the only thing under the truck thats not protected and has got me a little concerned as I do some off roading. Any reason why not to get one? Anyone know of any available over the counter, other wise my local fabricator is going to make me one.
