OK - you guys have made me nervous will all you're NSBU chit chat. Eighteen thousand miles in Mexico and Guatemala last winter and no problems, but now headed back to Mexico where it takes 2 weeks for parts. How do I tell which NSBU (old or new style) my 2002 with a build in October 01 has? Allison can't tell me. A spare is cheap at $50, but is there a difference between the two so that one can readily tell which he has?

The original NSBU is black. The new NSBU is tan in color. It is located on the driver's side of the trans, just above the pan rail near the back of the trans, inboard of the front driveshaft (if you have 4WD).

Picked up my new NSBU (tan color - my 02 had the old style black one) at the Allison dealer today - $50.35 as promised. The Allison parts manager told me Allison was replacing all the original ones on Allisons under warranty whether or not they were bad. They admitted a problem and Allison was taking care of it. Because our HD's are GM, Allison doesn't warrantee those for free, but says GM has known about this problem for some time and should have done a recall or replacement long ago. A $40,000 ++++ purchase sure buys great service and help from GM.

I replaced the NSBU switch yesterday as a preventative measure, and here are a few pics.

Or choose the KD EXHAUST or BIG WHEEL link in my sig.

mdrag,

Thanks for the pics, but I'm shocked and appalled to see rust on your truck!

Could someone who has installed the new NSBU on his 2001, post the Allison part number for this part ??
Thanks very much.
