Had my 03 3500 for a week and 500 miles now and since the 3rd day I have an intermittant squeal when backing up. Not continual but quite loud. Tonight when backing a lightly touched the brakes and held it and it seemed to quieten it somewhat. Anyone else had this happen?

Yep. There was a small rock stuck between the dust shield and the back side of the rear rotor. Just had to pull the dust shield away from the rotor a bit, and the rock fell out.

Just curious, ct0218, but have you seen the cat lately? tongue.gif Just kidding, sounds like something in the rear disk brake, just like SoMn said, could also be a universal, but that would make noise in both directions and wouldn't squeal for long before really let you know it was unhappy.

Could be the E-brake. It's a drum brake inside the disc rotor, independent of the disc brakes. They can drag and squeak, usually in one direction and not the other. If this is the noise, it will wear itself in and quit making noise.

I agree about the e-brake, it'll probably wear itself in, but check the pebble idea too, that's a good one. If it's the cat, it'll go away as well....

I'll check it this weekend. I opened the drivers door while backing today and its definitely from the left side, don't know about the right.
