View Full Version : Change grease zerk question?

Please grant me an answer to a dumb question. The grease zerk on the lower piviot point of the front wheels appears to come out of the side of what I would call a cap. It is a straight fitting which has very little clearance for a greese gun tip.

I thought it would be easier to replace the existing zerk with a 45 deg. zerk. However, the zerk is completely round and is not made for a wrench. Since I an very reluctant to grab anything with a pair of vice grips, I thought I better admit my ignorance and ask for help. Is there a better way?

Jim, If there are no flats for a wrench, they are probably pressed in. I have installed a few by putting a small socket on them and tapping with a hammer. I am sure the shop mechanics would know. Later! Lone Eagle

Tip for greasing the lower ball joints:

Turn the wheels to the right to grease the left side, and turn the wheels to the left to grease the right side.

You'll have plenty of room to get in there then...
