I was planning on changing the spin-on filter on the Allison and went looking for a quart of ATF. The owner's maunal for my '05 says to use "DEXRON-III, Approved for the H-Specification."

Stopped at 3 auto parts stores and Walmart and couldn't find any ATF with the "H-Specification" on the label.

Can anyone tell me what this is? The guy at one place said it's new and that's why I can't find it.

Thanks!
Dave

Is it ok to mix synthetic ATF with non-synthetic? I read in an RV-related magazine that you shouldn't mix the two.

It wouldn't be much, just enough to prime the filter and maybe top off if necessary. I'll probably switch to synthetic eventually, but just wanted to change the filter for now.

I don't think the H specification mentioned in the GM owner's manual refers to a Ford specification. I did some research and found that the H-specification appears to be an updated Dexron specification.

The article at the following link explains it...

I also found information about Chevron ATF that states it is "DEXRON-III approved for the H specification".

Dave,

Interesting info... Thanks for posting! http://forum.thedieselpage.com/ubb/icons/icon14.gif

I just sent an email to Mobil-1 asking if M1-ATF meets the latest DEX-III "H" spec. I'll post their reply...

Also... just found the following on the BITOG forum:

In response to the question,

Is Mobil-1 ATF is certified to meet GM's latest DEX-III "H" specification?

I received the following reply from Mobil:

"It is just coming out onto the market but most likely will only be available at retail stores after prior inventories are exhausted. The product will say on the label "approved for the "H" specification."

Bill, you're welcome, and thanks to you!

Based on Mobil's response, I would guess that other brands that meet the H spec would say so on the label, too.
