Can the 2001 Duramax be recalibrated for larger tires? I am thinking of going to 265's for pulling a fifth wheel trailer.

Your GM dealer can't do it, but any one of a number of aftermarket programmers, like the Predator can easily do it.

Hey Dick...........I was just at my dealer today & he hooked up the Tech 2 to my 2001 Dmax & gave me a list of tire sizes long as my arm. I saw it myself.....I don't know why mpower said Dealer couldn't do it.

Did you have it done, and did it work?

Didn't think so.

The tire size calibrations, which can be done with the Tech II only calibrate the ABS. The speedo/odo will still be off.

Only an aftermarket programmer, or calibrator (like TruSpeed) will be able to do that.

I received a quote of $150 to recalibrate the speedometer once I put 285's on my truck.

I will let you know if it works or not.

I have a Tech II screen shot image taken in 2001 showing the tire sizes available (51 in total) that your dealer technician can select. But, just as we learned way back then, and as DmaxMaverick mentioned, we know it can't correct the speedo/odo.

However, if you have a medium-duty truck with the 6600/Allison, a Tech II can correct the speedo and can select different differential gearing.

What you guys are being shown is the ABS tire size calibration. The Speedo calibration is in the ECM code, and GM only offers one gear ratio, and a couple of tire sizes, none of which are 285's.

$150 for 5-10 minutes of work?
