I've been coming to this site since before the 01MY trucks were launched. I just want to say thanks to everyone for taking the time to contribute to the site.

I had a second park neutral position/neutral start backup switch go bad last week. Based on what I read here, rather than going to the GM dealer, I went to an Allison dealer C&S Motors in Flint (very friendly folks) to get the part and replaced it this weekend. The part was under $50 + tax.

I also bought two spin on trans filters for under $15 (the same exact filter sold at the GM dealer for 15 each).

One note, the part on the truck was a replacement tan 29540479 park neutral position/neutral start backup switch that went bad. It was replaced by another tan/29540479 part.

I will buy another switch in the Fall since I am sure I will experience this again next winter.

Thanks again,

GM reccomends installing front mud flaps if you don't already have them to prevent repeat failures and I use a ton of dielectric grease on the connectors and under the dust cover that goes aroud the selector shaft.

My '01 GMC still has the original black colored NSBU, which hasn't caused any sort of problem... yet.

I did install the tan version in Lil Red (http://www.thedieselpage.com/features/project2-16.htm) during the buildup (as seen in the NSBU article).

I wonder about some of the drive-thru car washes that use pressurized nozzles beneath the vehicle as a possible negative....

I have mud flaps (since day one) and am on my third NSBU switch in 32,000 miles, two black ones and just put a tan one in. I do a lot of offroad driving and do have a spare (new tan one), never been in a car wash but I am on the West Coast :D

Both the one previously installed and this one are packed with the dielectric grease.

This vehicle does not see any off roading, although there was a ton of snow packed under the truck after driving around in the snow storm Saturday.

Mainly use the quarter washes.

I will just buy another on in the fall to have on hand as a spare in case it fails again.

Thanks again for the additional suggestions.
