I would like to purchase an auxiliary fuel tank/toolbox combo for my truck to be mounted at the front of the bed and plumbed into the trucks fuel tank. PROBLEM: I have a cap/topper on my truck and when I travel the back of my truck is loaded (with hunting gear). This would make re-fueling the aux tank impossible (unless I unloaded everything). I was thinking of plumbing a hose or pipe under the bed rail from the aux tank to the rear of the truck for re-fueling, am I dreaming? Has anyone done this? Does anyone make a kit to do this? HELP, any suggestions, ideas and/or knowledge of parts available to do this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

NOTE: I refuse to cut a hole in the side of my truck or cap to access the aux tank

Check out WWW.transferflow.com (http://WWW.transferflow.com) . They produce an excellent line of fuel tanks with many different types. I have a 45 gallon TFI tank that replaces the 26 gallon OEM tank and it fits under the bed.

Be sure to get the large filler neck so you can use the same pumps that the big rigs use. If you stick with your plan of using an in bed tank, TFI makes very nice thru the canopy fillers.

Do a search you should find quite a lot of favorable comments.

Good luck with your choice,

Jack

Well, your plan of piping a fill line down and back for your tank is a lot more pipe and trouble than going through your cap, dawg. You will have all that exposed and fuel-filled hose and tubing, have to go higher than the tank to fill and will be fighting the backpressure in the loop for the whole process. Be warned that although Transferflow makes some fine products, they have absolutely refused to sell their through-the-cap filler kit to anyone not owning one of their tanks. They refused me and at least one other aux tank owner here. I made up my own filler pipe out of a factory chassis-cab filler, 2-1/4" alumimum tube and 2-1/4" aircraft fuel hose and elbow. Pictures are in the aux tank folder in my PICs link below.

Thanks for the input from everyone. I checked out WWW.transferflow.com (http://WWW.transferflow.com) and liked the 45 gal replacement tank. That will probably be the route I go.

Thanks Burner, I didn

Crimedawg,

Check out Tourbuddy.com 705-454-2618 or 1-888-244-1112. I have had two of their tanks mounted over and behind the rear fender wells. I just open the cap door and there are the fillers.

Can't say I really like them as I would rather fill through the cap, but they do work. Each holds about 11 gal., are easy to install, and are still working after 150,000 miles.

Jack's Dmax : I have been looking at the 45 gallon TFI tank that replaces the 26 gallon OEM tank and it fits under the bed. I am debating if I should attempt the install myself or not. Any details on how the install went on yours would be appreciated.

mfontana,

The TFI tank install went flawlessly and I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I had the tank installed at TFI's plant in California. Do yourself a big favor and get their large filler so you can refuel at the same pumps as the big rigs.
