Alli-max,

I am curious as well. The manual indicates you should the SAE 80W-90 as compared to the rear axle fluid of SAE 75W-90. Can you use a heavier weight as others have indicated for the rear using the 75W-140??

How soon should you change the oil in the front Diff anyway?

BTW, creative job on the RAM Air! :D I will be curious as to the overall benefit.

You and me both (about the airdam)...

I dont see the benefit of heavier weight oil unless towing in 4WD with a load.

Same as rear ... I'm useing AMSOIL synthetic .......

Others are useing MOBIL , RED LINE , pick one and due it ......

So whets the deal on the drain pipe air inlet???? Any gains ...... ? If your gonna drive through some deep puddles, carry an elbow and a short piece of gutter and you can go snorkeling ...... tongue.gif

MAC :D

Mark, I'm running 75w-90 Mobil 1 front and rear.

Use the stuff in all my differentials, and it's good oil!! My old drag truck's diff has over 300 passes on the gear set (4.56 9" Ford), with no wear what so ever, and that was behind a 600+ HP 406 SBC and a trans brake equipped 'Glide. I plan to run the same gear set again behind my new 427 SBC equipped racer.

I've got the Mobil 1 in the rear myself to SoMn... Guess I will put it in the front this weekend.

Mackin.. I dont think you are supposed to go through water that is ABOVE the lowest part of the rim IIRC. :D

Is there a drain plug on the front diff like the rear? Or is it a cover and gasket?

No I am not that lazy to go look...truck is at home and want to get the stuff to do it this weekend on the way home.......

MABurns,

If you're putting synthetic oil in the front Diff check the color of the plastic vent cover. If the cover is "black" it has to be changed to a "white" one (PN 12479296). The Black cover is not compatible with synthetic oil. (See http://service.gm.com/gmtechlink/images/issues/feb03/TLFeb03e.html#story13 for more info). I recently changed the front & rear diff oil to Mobil-1 75w90 on my 2003 and I had to replace the black cover with the white one. Cost was $20.
