I'm considering changing from 265's on stock wheels to 285's on Centerline Bullet 16X8's. I am also adding different torsion bar keys to level the front end.

My question is to those who have a similar combination; will the truck fit through a standard 7' garage door with the above mentioned modification?

Also, what's the best way to get rid of the stock PYO wheels with 1/2 worn 265's??

Thanks!!

Mine still fits in the garage easily with those tire sizes. I have my torsion bars cranked up bit but with stock keys.

You'll most likely be raising the truck only 1 inch, so unless you're dangerously close already you shouldn't have a problem.

I had new torsion bar keys put in (commonly called Green Keys) and then had my bars cranked. Got 2.25" of added front lift. I also had 2.5" blocks put on top of the rear axle to raise the rear. Then I put on 255x85R16 tires on stock 6.5" rims (which are slightly larger in diameter than 285s) which gave me another 1.25" clearance over my 245x75R16s.

My total height increase (with a 7/8ths empty fuel tank and a straight in-line profile canopy) was 3.5" and that brought me up to 83.5" max height (at the rear at highest point of canopy).

Re your old wheels and tires...I'd hold on to them for a year or two. If you have a tranny problem, your Dealer may insist on stock tires being mounted before they do any work on it. Its in the GM instructions (apparently comes direct from Allison).

TH would your tire selection not fit without raiseing truck? I was thinking about using that same size tire but have no kind of lift device on truck, It sits at stock height.

I was told that it would fit stock. The tires are half way between a 245 and 265/75R16 in width but 1/4" taller than 285s.

I tightened the torsion bars mainly to give me more clearance when I go over deactived road ditches on my hunting/fishing trips more than for tire clearance. With the taller tires and torsion bar crank, I have an extra 3.75" of clearance under the truck.

Having said that...even with the torsion bar adjustment, its a close fit.

FYI...I got the new Dunlop ATXT tires that just came out... extremely happy with them. Relatively aggressive tread, very quiet, so far great on stretches of black ice I encountered in Feb. smile.gif Haven't had them in gumbo mud yet though...
