Gents;
Can anyone reccommend a decent set of front wheel ramps to get the front end up about 7 inchs or so for service? The lamo places around here want to sell me sets that are good for car tires and scare me, i need a set for a truck and bigger tires later.
Best regards. :confused:

I know it is a little tougher, but I use some 3 ton jackstands myself. Jackstands also make it easier to get to the zerks (since the tires hang)on lubes...

Seems to me that if I was to have a set just for use with diesel pickups then I believe I'd make my own ( or have them built ) out of some heavier gauge stock and put them on flip down rollers.
But if 7" is all you need, then may I suggest taking 4 2X6s, each being shorter than the other, bevel cut one of the ends, and nail them to one another to make a nice 7" rise platform. Cheap, affective, and it works, gauranteed not to fall in under the weight of the truck.

Thats a good idea DD... (welcome to the forum)... Actually would need 5 2X6's though (2X6 is 1.5 inches tall). :rolleyes: tongue.gif

Pep Boys and others sell a ramp called "rhino ramps" that claim to hold 12000lbs. I have used them with my old do..ge 1 ton diesel and also with my 2002 d/a and they work fine, don't distort or anything. They are light weight and made out of a composite material and gives about a 5 inch lift.

I use the rhino ramps on my firebird and I like them. I know my car only weighs half what the truck weighs, but I think they will hold the weight with out a problem.

Might want to check with Sears. I found a set of ramps that will support 10000 lbs. on their web site. They were not in stock but I had it delivered to their store and was notified by phone and email when they arrived. $50 and 3 days.

I got some heavy duty metal ramps years ago from Autozone or somewhere and they have been working great. My dad's '01 Dodge Cummins has been up on them, no problem. Can't remember the name right now, but they are bright John Deere yellow and look almost like the Sears ramps that ThePend is talking about:

Bought a set of the stamped metal ramps, waste of money.Had some treated guard rail posts laying around, 8 by 8 inches, cut two pieces 2 feet long and beveled with chain saw, added a 2 by 4 cleat to each one so as not to drive off the end. They work great,do not slide on smooth concrete floor and should never fail.Wish I had made them sooner.

I have too noticed that it's a tight sqeeze to roll over when under the rig. Having the bars turned up helps but my running boards take away that advantage. Was thinking of fabricating a front lift bar that would sit on my 3 ton floor jack. There are two flat spots on the front of the frame with holes in them. If I weld two small pins onto this bar they could fit into those holes in the frame. That way it would be safe when jacking.

Everybody be careful with those stamped sheet metal jobs. They can collapse. Pay the money for better ones with higher ratings.

Hey guys, here's one you might not have seen before but they work great! They are made from recycled tires. They are solid & they don't slip.
They are called E-Z Risers. they are made right here in the city of Saskatoon Saskatchewan. They are sold in various places including NAPA auto parts. Check out their web site

hope this helps. DD :D :D

i think crappy er... canadian tire sells those too, @ 24.99 [cdn funds] i have a set of steel ones from them that are rated at 9000 lbs [36.99 cdn right now, no sale price]. they work real well for my familys trucks and van. sucks when my friend uses them though.. yesterday, he ripped of his spoiler on his caviler... oh well, he was dumb and didn't use the 3' 2"x8"s'provided to help clear the ramp.....

Rhino Ramps work great for these trucks. I have used them for years on HD trucks with no problems. They are composite (don't rust and don't cut you hands when you handle them). They support a lot more weight than our trucks weigh.

They are quite wide so wide tires aren't a problem. They are 35" long by 11" wide by 8 1/2" tall with a nice 17% incline so you don't have to race up them to get to the top. Autobarn.com has them for $44.95.
