How often are you highway guys hitting the zerks with grease? What is the reasonable
mileage interval?

I know what the manual says

Every 5,000 should be quite enough.

Every time I change the oil, 5,000 miles. Probably more often than I need to but I'm already there and why not, grease is cheap. Just be careful not to over fill and bust the boots on the ball joints. ;)

IMHO it really depends on the grease being used. Conventional grease will not hold up as long as a synthetic(no matter what brand). On my 95 I grease it about every 12K. The way I do it is feel the boots to see how firm they are. Also if one pump on the gun will begin to swell the boot you still have plenty of grease. Use a good synthetic grease and grease less. The 95 has as many zerks as the Dmax and a couple are really boogers to get to.

I usually go every other oil change...8k-10k miles

I change oil every 3000. Rotate tires every 6000. While up on jack stands to rotate, I hit the 11 zirc fittings. I remove the front skid for ease of reaching the fittings.
