I changed the oil and filter on my Dmax this evening and while I was under the truck I noticed that a lot of the black paint on the frame components, (for example the cross member directly under the oil drain plug) is all sticky and not dry. Anybody else notice this on their truck? I am just wondering if this is normal for the 110 degree heat here in hot a$$ AZ.
thanks,

That is the wax-like coating applied on the frame components to prevent corrosion. I'm sure in 110 degree heat it will be a little sticky. Mine is "soft" at normal temperatures...
So yes, it's normal...

Yup, it's normal until you get a fuel leak, then it comes off better than if you used paint remover. Don't spill any fuel on it!

SoCalDMAX, that is the truth! Sunday I changed my fuel filter for the first time and was extremely careful not to spill any fuel. When I purged the system, some diesel dripped on the frame and I quickly wiped it off. Well, the coating melted away down to the bare metal.
I believe I'll try and apply some of the off the shelf undercoating to protect the metal.

I put undercoating right over the frame coating and it seems to have bonded with no problems -- been on for 8 months.
