Stud #1 - Stud #2 Fuse Box Question

What is the difference between the Stud #1 and Stud #2
locations in the fuse/relay block? Do they work independently
or is there some commonality between them.

Stud #1 Accessory Power/Trailer Wiring Feed..............takes a 40 amp fuse
Stud #2 Accessory Power/Trailer Wiring Brake Feed....takes a 30 amp fuse

I put the 30 amp fuse in Stud #2 when I had the Lance camper harness installed.
Now I just purchased an electric brake controller to install for our new
trailer and I will need to put the 40 amp fuse in Stud #1 to make it work.

What do each of them do?
Can one of our electrical guru's simplify this for us........I'm confused

I believe it's something like this:

Stud #1 charges your camper battery.

Stud #2 powers electric trailer brakes.

I think NoMo is correct, at least on my 2003 3500 he is correct.
The data you posted suggests that also...

NoMo and Don are correct.

The 40amp fuse that is located in Stud #1 powers your 12 volt constant. When you have a fuse in there, it sends 12 volts to your plug by the receiver and in the bed (if you have that option)

The 30amp fuse located in Stud #2 is what powers the brake controller harness for your brake controller to work.

This is the case for the 03's.

This must be the reason that the 2003's were a little

I wonder why they would switch the positions on
Stud #1 and Stud #2 :confused:

I was just going off the descriptions you gave for each fuse position. I haven't checked for myself to see which one powers the battery and the brakes. smile.gif

The puzzle for me, and this was with both my '01 and '03 is that the truck comes with the fuse already installed for the brake controller. I know of at least one person (who shall remain anonymous smile.gif ) that blew the fuse while mucking around wiring up his brake controller. He thought the fuse included with the wiring harness was to provide power to the brake circuit. NOPE, that fuse goes into STUD 1 position (both '01 and '03) and provides +12 volt power to the trailer connector. ALL trucks ordered with the trailering option do not come with the B+ fuse installed.

Weird??? :confused: ;)
