Friend has relayed this info with an Allison problem. Any help is appreciated. Hopefully, he will come here and join! smile.gif
"I have a 2001 2500HD with the Allison 5 speed auto. Put a new battery in about a month ago and since then the shifts have been abnormal. When cruising along at highway speeds and then step on the gas like to pass someone, it downshifts into 3rd momentarily then goes into 4th where it should be. When slowing down while going down a grade, it down shifts funny, feels like it goes two gears at a time.
That's was the good news.
This past weekend, I was pulling my travel trailer and hadn't gone but maybe 20 miles, when the trans. made a clunking noise, and then the check engine light came on. I kept driving for a while and after about 10 more miles when leaving from a red light it was real hard taking off almost sounding like the trans was slipping, and then it would never shift. It appeared to me like it was stuck in third gear and would not up or down shift. At that point I turned around and went home.
The next day, I drove the truck, without the trailer, and it shifted and ran fine, but the check engine light was still on. This morning, the light was on when I first started, but after about 2 miles it went off and everything ran fine. I drove about 50 miles to work with no problems. The trans. fluid does not smell like it is burnt. The mechanic here at work thinks it might be an electrical problem. Would the trans. need to be reprogramed after changing the battery out? Any suggestions? "
