Arrrggghh! I just bought Amsoil 80W90 gear lube! I was intending to buy 75W90 for the rear axle.

Should I buy the 75W90 or should I use the 80W90?

opinions please

Thanks

I'll assume you mean for the rear end??

If so, I would not recommend using the 80w-90.

GM recommends the 75w-90 for normal use, or 75w-140 for heavy towing/hauling and climate requirements. Both are synthetic, and the lube they recommend is only available at the GM counter, so far (grape juice).

If you don't use the brand GM recommends, at least use the correct grade and composition. It will surely save on warranty hassle. IMO, Amsoil is an excellent gear lube for this application. I use it, and have for over 50K on my '01 HD.

Of course, now there will be 20 folks here that use the 80w-90 stuff, have used it for 50 years, and swear by it with testimonials. You never know.
