Looks like Allison has just published a letter to dealers and distributors letting them know that they can now order remanufactured transmissions to service GM pickup trucks that are out of warranty. Here is some of the text:
"Allison Transmission is pleased to announce that beginning in June 2004, orders can be placed by distributors and dealers for 1000 series ReTran units configured for model year 2002 GM Pickup Trucks. These units were previously exclusive to General Motors dealers. This release is in addition to the model year 2001 units that were made available last year.
The release of these units is solely for retail business only, and is intended to facilitate an opportunity for the Allison Distribution Channel to participate in the emerging market demand for transmission repair of GM Pickups equipped with an Allison transmission.
Vigilant care must be exercised when accepting service business. Customers must be advised that repairs will be performed on a customer pay basis only. The Allison distributor or dealer should encourage customers to contact a GM dealer if there is any doubt the vehicle could still be under warranty.
Vehicles still under GM warranty must be directed to the GM dealer, if the customer expects the repair to be covered under warranty. Diligence must be exercised to avoid creating a situation which places a vehicle owner at risk of paying for a repair which otherwise would have been covered under their GM Warranty. To facilitate due diligence Allison Transmission is establishing the following requirement.
- Service writer must obtain warranty coverage status from the owner, prior to acceptance of repair.
Allison Transmission will not reimburse a distributor or dealer for warranty repairs covered by a GM warranty but serviced by an Allison distributor or dealer."
I guess if you are bound and determined to have your Allison worked on at an Allison shop, they'll be happy to have your business. smile.gif
