View Full Version : Why can't GM build a SUBURBAN HD

2500HD Suburban what an idea!! Body lift and front end like Silverado HD. Full powered Duramax not the detuned version and the ALISON not the 4L80E. That would crush the F#*D Excursion. Why is GM so dumb about this? It wouldn't take much to produce it.

Excursions haven't sold all that well. That could be the reason you may not see an HD Suburban. You may see a diesel version but probably not and HD.

Another issue is the price. I personally would spend the probably 50,000 for one but I am a young man with a good job and no responsibilities to any one but me and my TOYS. (Oh yeah and 2 cats also) but they can catch some mice if times get tough. Oh well I hope they do build one some day It would be an AWESOME TRUCK!!!

Demographics and economics research, results = no profitable market for this product.

There's PLENTY of SUV's here on the island, so I don't think sales will be a problem.
With the amount of money these things cost already, I don't forsee an additional 6 or 7 grand as being a problem. As far as the Excursion is concerned, I believe Ford is already out-gunned!!! I'd put my 'Burb up against an Excursion ANYTIME!!!!
Well G.M., I HOPE YOU PAY ATTENTION AND BUILD IT!!!!!!!!!

Two reasons why you're not seeing Duramax Subs:

1- DMAX can't build enough engines to satisfy the light and medium-duty truck market.

2- GM is selling all of the Suburbans it can build with gas engines.

A Dmax Sub is a dead deal unless things change significantly.

I have a contact in the industry who says that in fact, there will be a DuraMax Sub. It will be a detuned version, so as not to destroy the 4L80E that they are putting in it. Apparently, after all of the explorer rollover BS, they are afraid of lifting their biggest SUV high enough to slip an Allison under it. Safety Nazis once again takin' all of the fun out of it for the rest of us.......

I like having the saftey guys around. Keeps all 4 wheels on the ground. I don't see any fun by rolling a high center of gravity, at any speed.

There isn't enough room to fit an Allison under the floor pan of a Suburban.

Why can't they build enough engines??????? Navistar doesn't seem to have that problem.

I thought the Dmax plant was designed for ease of expansion and production increase. Remember they said it was "modular" for future increases.

Look at them now building 400 day while Navistar is building 1100 a day. I don't see how you can compete with lofty goals when you don't even build half of what the competition is building. Mean time, no Suburban and no small diesel and still lots of money in perspective buyers pockets. Sometimes I wonder about GM. Great product but they need more of it.

ChevDog,

I posted this too, about a month ago ........ I got shot down like a GERMAN warplane by a GM DEALER poster here , he stated no way ......... Seems we get better info then they do .... Well, we already knew that anyway ........ I too heard a detuned D-max burb in the fall .......... Who knows ........ They are working on a six banger, perhaps for Yukon's and Taho's ........ I don't think we will see the Allison in any of them ....... Cost and fit ..........If you here any more keep us posted. I'll do the same .......

If and when the Dmax plant gets more automated they will start crankeing out more of our beloved oil burners! 2ND the 8.1L 340 hp 450ftlbs is a option with a LE85 trans....SO dont think the little wimpy trans cant handle the heat! More then a few of us have put its little brother to the test for millions of miles with BOMB to the hills 6.5TD!!!!(LE80) How many of you guys have driven a 8.1? these truck FLY! but not like a BOMBED DMAX :D (getting thursty need juice)!

Hey raventai;
What is the secret of posting a pix like that rather than using picture trail.

In regards to the pic post, UBB is not enabled at this time, and don't know when it will be (hey, Jim, what about the UBB?). UBB was enabled when he posted that pic (check the date). Cheers

And the number one reason GM hasn't built a Duramax/Allison 2500 HD Suburban?

1. Scoccer Moms don't know squat about diesels.
