I drove a 1996 Fedex unit today on a Freightliner chassis, cummins deisel,Allison auto..

Man does it ever act different then the newer Fedex units..It would downshift to a lower gear like you would a straight shift to keep it on the power..You would have to floor it to upshift,it wouldn`t just shift up going slowly along,it would once the rpm got up there....

Just the old sytle trans, I guess..It sure made me appreciate the newer trans...

I believe the 1000 Series came out in 2000.

The 1000/2000/2400 transmissions went into production in June of 99 in Indy, but only as configured for medium duty trucks. Those trucks have a much longer lead time between the time the components are delivered to the factory and the time the truck hits the dealer's lot, so the transmissions really started getting into customers hands around the end of 1999.

Paintdude, you probably drove an AT545, which is shifted mechanically instead of electronically.
