Warranty Gold, seller of extended warranty policies has filed for Chapter 11 re-organization. Anyone who purchased a policy prior to June 7th is out of luck. Check out the story in the Austin American Statesman at http://www.statesman.com/business/content/auto/epaper/editions/friday/business_f34bb8da66b6a01f0048.html

I purchased my policy last November for $1,900 for a 150,000 mile full coverage policy. I had a small claim in August for $184, and another one for $100 which haven't been paid. Now it doesn't even look like I can get a refund on the policy.

TC,

Hate to say this, but ALL warranty Gold customers are out, not just the ones that purchased prior to 7 June. The pre 7 june crowd were out when the re-insurer filed chapter 11. Now Warranty Gold has also filed chapter 11 and that affects everyone.

Most importantly, if you bought before June 6, 2003 and want to try to get a pro-rated refund, you have to reply by March 17, 2004!! And they don't provide jacks__t as to what to fill in on the "Proof of Claim" form... What a help they are.

This instability wouldn't be, because their head office is located in the CAYMEN ISLANDS. there was a documentary on TV about Warranty Gold, not good news various governments were trying without luck, to sieze assets and bank accounts,

good luck

Warranty Gold's headquarters are in Austin, Texas. Their failed reinsurer, National Warrany is headquartered offshore.

If you have one of their pre June 2003 warranties go to their website and follow the links to the bankruptcy court. There are two forms you need to file with the court to have any chance of getting any money back. File the forms prior March 2004 or you're even farther outa luck than you (we) already are.

Hey Bob,

Did you fill out the "proof of claim" form? Where and/or what are you supposed to fill out on there before it's returned? Where do you get the case number? Do we figure out the refund amount, or do they? They supposedly will respond to your emails within 48 hours, I've written 3 times and heard nothing back. I guess I didn't expect any different.
